DJI teaser and announcement. Possible new zoom camera for Mavic 2 Enterprise?

This morning teases us with a photo of what seems to be a mysterious new product that will be released on December 15th at 8 am EST. We suspect that this might be a new zoom camera gimbal combination for the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise. Let's take a closer look and see what we can make of this teaser photo.

DJI teaser. Possible new zoom camera for Mavic 2 Enterprise?

Looking at the photo, it says DJI Enterprise in the top left corner. It shows what seems to be a wide-angle lens at the top and a telelens at the bottom of a new camera and gimbal in the center of the photo. It reminds me of the multi-lens setups we see on high-end smartphones. The gimbal housing shows some vague resemblance to the .

Could this be a new zoom camera for the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise?

Neither one of the lenses seem to be thermal camera lenses. So if we stick with the wide-angle lens end telelens combination similar to smartphones, then this is likely not meant for the DJI Matrice 300 RTK series. The more plausible option is that this new camera is meant for the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise to provide additional zoom range. An affordable version of the and Zenmuse Z30 combo, if you will.

An updated Mavic 2 Enterprise with a much larger zoom range would make a lot of sense. If we look at the broader trend of DJI drones becoming more capable and less expensive (think ), a new DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise with extra zoom would fit right in. In speaking with various over the years, I have noticed a strong preference for smaller, lighter, less expensive, but more capable drones that are easier to fly and also easier to procure (an M2E is a lot less expensive than an M300 + Zenmuse XT2 or Z30).

So, my money would be on a new camera and gimbal for the Mavic 2 Enterprise to increase the zoom range. The current Mavic 2 Enterprise provides a zoom range of 24-48 mm in 35 mm format equivalent. It is hard to predict what this new zoom range would be, but I would guess it to be slightly wider and a lot more zoom. We will find out on December 15th, 2020 at 8 am EST.

  1. When DJI makes a comment that it is going to be “HOT”, Perhaps this is a new DJI Mavic Enterprise 3 Dual? I think it will be “Thermal”

  2. I wasn’t aware that the M2E had a removable gimbal. I’m thinking it’s the FPV drone, which will be priced high enough to be in the “Enterprise” category, and will be geared towards commercial videography.
