Ahead of its rumored release date of April 28th, a flurry of newly leaked photos shows the DJI Mini 3 and the RC out in the open.

Early this morning, leakers DealsDrone, Jasper Ellens and OsitaLV started sharing new photos on Twitter clearly showing the sub-250-gram drone and the new DJI remote controller with a built-in display.

Based on pricing information that was leaked earlier, we expect DJI to launch two versions of the new mini drone, a DJI Mini 3 standard and a DJI Mini 3 Pro. It seems to make sense that the pro version would include the new DJI remote controller with a bright, hi-res display.

Not long after, the initial photos were shared, DealsDrone was able to get his hands on what seem to be studio photos of the DJI Mini 3 and DJI RC.

Looking at the photos, we can see that the DJI Mini 3 will come with a large camera and gimbal protector.

The camera on the DJI Mini 3 is expected to feature an aperture of f/1.7 for improved low-light performance. There have been rumors of a 1-inch sensor, but as of yet, we have been unable to confirm such information.

Interesting is the cut-out between the obstacle avoidance sensors, which would seemingly allow the camera to be pointed 90-degrees upwards.

The DJI Mini 3 has two clearly defined forward-facing obstacle avoidance sensors, however, if you look closely you will see that there are also cut-outs for what seem to be backward-facing obstacle avoidance sensors.

DJI Mini 3 designed differently

The entire design of the DJI Mini 3 is a huge step forward in functionality over the outgoing DJI Mini 2. The world’s largest drone maker clearly is less concerned with creating a beautiful drone, instead, it chooses to cram as much functionality into this little guy.

I applaud DJI for doing this. Develop the best performing sub-250-gram mini drone, no matter what it takes in terms of design.

The DJI Mini 3 should feature a slightly larger battery capacity over the outgoing model, which hopefully will result in a better flight time since the weight stays the same.

Another difference with the DJI Mini 2 is the way the arms of the drone fold out. It seems to be a simplified folding mechanism of the original Mavic design with the swinging out instead of rotating and swinging.

All these newly leaked photos of the DJI Mini 3 in the open give us a detailed look at what will likely be the next DJI drone to be launched on April 28th.

Let’s see if we can get some more clarity on the specs in the next couple of days.
