DJI Mini 3 Pro Firmware Update – NEW Features & Tripod Mode

Good day, folks! Shawn here from Air Photography. DJI had a pretty busy day yesterday, as they released some new hardware: a new set of goggles called the DJI Goggles Integra and an updated motion controller called the DJI Motion 2. We will take a closer look at them in another video down the road.

However, another significant event yesterday was the release of a firmware update for the Mini 3 Pro. This is an important update that many people have been waiting for. Let’s go ahead and examine the release notes to see what has changed.

As you can see, there is new firmware for the DJI Mini 3 Pro, now at version 1.00.0500. Looking at the release notes, it states that it has added “Reset All Settings” and “Clear All Data” options, which we will explore shortly.

The major addition, however, is the Gain and Expo tuning. This is a crucial update, as the Gain and Expo settings now allow us to adjust the maximum speed when in Cine mode, Normal mode, or Sport mode.

This somewhat mimics the old Tripod mode. Many people found that, when in Cine mode and applying full stick forward, it still flew a bit too fast, making it challenging to capture really nice, slow cinematic shots.

Now, let’s go ahead and take a look at these new features. If we go to the “About” section in the settings and scroll all the way to the bottom, we can see two new options: “Reset All Settings” and “Clear All Data.”

The “Reset All Settings” option will return the controller and all settings for the Mini 3 Pro to their factory defaults. This can be a helpful tool, especially if you’re new to the device, have made some changes, and aren’t sure what you’ve done. You can go back and restore everything to default settings.

The other interesting feature is “Clear All Data.” If we click on it, a message appears, showing us what data will be cleared.

The process will clear data in the aircraft’s internal storage and SD card, as well as the aircraft logs, unlocking licenses, and other user data stored on the aircraft.

It also provides a warning that if you have crashed your drone, you should contact DJI first, as some of the information that will be cleared may be needed by them.

So, if you’ve had an accident with your DJI Mini 3 Pro drone or require repair work, don’t clear your data until you’ve contacted DJI.

This feature is excellent for those planning to sell their drone, as it allows them to clear all their user data and information, ensuring it doesn’t fall into someone else’s hands.

Now, let’s examine the Gain and Expo settings. We’ll go into our settings, navigate to Control, and click on Gain and Expo Tuning.

At the top, we have our new speed tools. We can adjust the horizontal speed, ascent speed, and descent speed.

If you want to raise or lower your drone’s altitude more slowly, you can fine-tune these settings. However, the important one that many people utilize is horizontal speed, which determines how quickly the drone flies forward and backward.

This allows you to slow down the drone to capture really nice, cinematic slow shots. We can go all the way down to 3.6 kilometers per hour, which can be an essential setting for some users.

Another setting added is called Brake Sensitivity. Essentially, if you’re flying full stick forward and release the stick to return it to the center, the brake sensitivity determines how long it takes for the drone to come to a complete stop. This can help prevent jerky movements.

This video serves as a heads-up, looking at the new features. I am actually heading out in about an hour or two to conduct a test flight and try out these new features.

I will be uploading a test flight of the new firmware and the new Fly app, hopefully by tomorrow morning.

Now, a little more information: when you update the firmware for the aircraft, it will also update the firmware for the DJI RC, as well as the Fly app, which is now version 1.9.8.

If you use the original RC-N1 controller with a smartphone, DJI has updated the Fly app for that as well, so you will have access to these new features.

How about the DJI RC Pro and the DJI Mini 3 Pro?

Another interesting point to note is that I have bound the Mini 3 Pro to my RC Pro, but there is no update for the RC Pro yet.

How About The Dji Rc Pro And The Dji Mini 3 Pro?

So, if we go into our settings, head to Control, and then click on Gain and Expo Tuning, you can see that those new features are not there yet.

The same applies if we go to About and scroll down to the bottom: those reset options are not available either.

Unfortunately, you can’t use those new features with the RC Pro. I assume it’s just a matter of time before they become available, but in the meantime, you can still use your other controllers to access those new features.

Well, folks, that’s it for this video. I hope you enjoyed it and found it valuable. If you did, please give it a thumbs up, as it is truly appreciated when you do that.

Thanks a lot, and we’ll see you in the next one!
