The DJI Goggles 3 are the headset DJI ships with the Avata 2, and the first DJI goggles that let you fly a camera drone with its stock controller. This page tracks which drones they support, how they compare against the Goggles 2 and the budget Goggles N3, and how pairing works.
What are the DJI Goggles 3?
The DJI Goggles 3 are the FPV headset DJI released alongside the Avata 2 in 2024, combining the head tracking and diopter adjustment of the Goggles 2 with the integrated rear battery and built-in GPS of the Goggles Integra in a single, better balanced design. In his hands-on overview, Billy Kyle called them the best goggles DJI has made, crediting the rear battery pack that counterbalances the screen and a forehead pad that takes pressure off the eyes, cheeks, and nose.
DJI’s published specifications list the headset as model TKGS3 with dual 0.49-inch screens at 1920 x 1080 each, a refresh rate up to 100Hz, a 44-degree field of view per screen, and an interpupillary distance range of 56 to 72 mm. The internal battery holds 3000 mAh (21.6 Wh) and runs up to 3 hours, measured with head tracking and Real View switched off and screen brightness at 4. Weight is 470 grams with the battery included, and the body measures 170 x 109 x 112 mm with the antennas folded. Onboard recording, per DJI’s FAQ, captures the goggles screen at 1920 x 1080 with a maximum 60fps, halving the rate automatically when the drone’s camera runs above 60fps.
Pre-launch specifications shared by DJI insider Güçlü Atamer, reported by DroneXL, got the screens and refresh rate right and missed on two numbers worth correcting if you saw them at the time: the shipping battery is 3000 mAh rather than the leaked 2450 mAh, and the built-in diopter range is -6.0 D to +2.0 D rather than -8.0 D. DJI includes -2.0 D lenses and frames for prescriptions outside that window, which brings the practical low end back to roughly -8.0 D.
Post-release coverage confirmed the microSD slot for DVR footage, which accepts cards up to 512GB, along with a defogging fan and fixed, non-removable antennas, a step back from the swappable antennas on the Goggles 2 (overview). Greg Reverdiau’s compatibility breakdown notes latency as low as 24 milliseconds with the Avata 2 at 1080p/100fps, a figure DJI publishes alongside a 40-millisecond number at 1080p/60fps and a maximum transmission distance of 13 km (8 miles) under FCC rules.
The two front-facing cameras first surfaced in a March 2024 leak and give you a pass-through view without removing the headset. DJI rates that Real View at the same 44 degrees as the flight feed, which puts a number on Billy’s complaint that the camera field of view is too tight to be useful in practice.
Pricing starts at $590 for the headset on its own, which puts it well above the $229 Goggles N3 and makes the Avata 2 combos the more common way in.
Which drones work with DJI Goggles 3?
The Goggles 3 pair with every DJI drone on the O4 transmission system, meaning the Avata 2, Avata 360, Neo, Neo 2, Air 3, and Mini 4 Pro. Camera drone support comes with trade-offs. The compatibility guide reports that intelligent flight modes such as FocusTrack, MasterShots, QuickShots, and Waypoint Flight are disabled in the goggles, the Mini 4 Pro loses portrait mode, manual focus, and enhanced transmission, and the Air 3 loses camera switching and gimbal parameter changes. DJI adds one more limitation in its own FAQ: fly the Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro with an RC 2 and the controller’s built-in screen goes dark, since the live feed displays only in the goggles.
The Air 3S, Mini 5 Pro, and Mavic 4 Pro do not work with any DJI goggles. DJI’s May 2026 firmware wave is the clearest signal on where that stands: the Avata 360 release shipped matching updates for the Goggles N3, Goggles 3, RC Motion 3, FPV Remote Controller 3, RC-N2, RC-N3, and DJI RC 2, while the Mini 5 Pro, Air 3S, and Mavic 4 Pro releases touched no goggles at all. Sharing the Goggles 3 live view with a phone
Anyone standing next to you can watch the flight on a phone. DJI supports live feed sharing from the Goggles 3 to the DJI Fly app over Wi-Fi, and once connected you can start a livestream from inside the app. Where local rules restrict the 5.1 or 5.8 GHz bands, wireless sharing may not work at all, and DJI recommends a wired connection instead: an OTG cable from the goggles’ USB-C port to the phone, then GO FLY in the app.
This is the detail that gets confused most often, so it is worth separating. The goggles can send the feed to a phone. What they cannot do on the Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro is keep the feed on the DJI RC 2’s built-in screen, which goes dark once the goggles take over. Two different screens, two different answers. The goggles support only one connected mobile device at a time, and sharing pauses while you switch to Real View or browse the album.
There is no HDMI port. If you own a DJI RC Pro, DJI documents a workaround: connect the goggles to the RC Pro with a USB-C cable, connect the RC Pro to a display over HDMI, then enable FPV Live under Settings > Display.
What the DJI Goggles 3 cannot do
Four limits are worth knowing before you spend the money, and all of them come from DJI’s own FAQ rather than from reviewers.
The Goggles 3 do not support flight simulators. That one catches beginners out, because the obvious way to learn FPV cheaply is to fly a sim indoors on the same headset you will use outdoors, and DJI has closed that door. There is also no analog video support, so the goggles cannot receive from an analog VTX or an older non-DJI air unit.
The on-screen display cannot be switched off. Telemetry stays over your view at all times, which matters if you were planning to record clean DVR footage from the goggles rather than from the drone.
The last one is narrower. The goggles play back 3D and panoramic video from the card and will show photos from an album, but spherical photos are not supported, and 3D or panoramic playback requires the RC Motion 3 controller rather than working with any controller you happen to own.
Charging, cards, and care
The battery is built into the headset and is not swappable. It charges over USB-C at up to 20W when powered off, and DJI confirms you can run the goggles from a third-party power bank and keep flying while they charge, which is the practical answer to the three-hour runtime on a long shoot.
For DVR recording, DJI names two card families it has tested: Kingston Canvas Go! Plus and Lexar Professional 1066x, both in U3 A2 V30 spec, in capacities from 64GB to 512GB. The foam padding detaches and can be replaced when it flattens out or wears.
Two care items matter more than they sound. DJI warns to keep the lenses out of direct sunlight, because sun focused through the optics causes irreversible damage to the screens, so the headset should never sit face-up on a car roof or a picnic table between flights. Operating range is -10°C to 40°C (14°F to 104°F), which is worth remembering on a cold morning when the goggles have been sitting in the truck.
DJI Goggles 3 vs Goggles 2 vs Goggles N3
Against the Goggles 2, the Goggles 3 trade removable antennas and a wider view for a better fit and broader controller support. DJI lists the Goggles 2 at a 51-degree field of view per screen against the Goggles 3’s 44 degrees, so the older headset still shows you more. The Goggles 2 also cover more camera drones, including the Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro, and Mavic 3 series, though those drones require the motion controller in goggles mode. A May 2024 firmware update extended the Goggles 2 and Goggles Integra forward to the Avata 2, alongside the FPV Remote Controller 2 and RC Motion 2, so the older headsets are not locked out of DJI’s O4 FPV drones the way they were at launch.
The Goggles 3 remain the first headset that works with a drone’s standard controller, which Billy Kyle called the bigger upgrade in his first flight with the Air 3 and RC 2. He also rated the Goggles 3 fit as a clear improvement over both the Goggles 2 and the Integra. Two practical differences round it out: the Goggles 3 take microSD cards up to 512GB against the Goggles 2’s 256GB ceiling, and the Goggles 3 battery is integrated, where the Goggles 2 runs off a separate 122-gram pack. That last point matters when you compare the published weights, since DJI’s 290-gram figure for the Goggles 2 excludes the battery and the 470-gram figure for the Goggles 3 includes it.
The Goggles N3 are the budget alternative at $229. DroneXL’s N3 review measured the practical differences: the N3 weigh 536 grams against the Goggles 3’s 470 grams, swap the dual micro-OLED screens for a single 3.5-inch 1080p LCD with a 54-degree field of view, drop diopter adjustment in favor of fitting over glasses, and run 2.7 hours per charge. Latency and overall feel are similar, and the reviewer found the N3’s thicker foam more comfortable for long sessions. The deciding factor for most buyers is not comfort though. DJI lists the N3 as compatible with the Avata 2, the Neo, and the O4 Air Unit Series, and not the Air 3 or Mini 4 Pro. If flying a camera drone in goggles is the reason you are shopping, the Goggles 3 are the only one of the two that does it.
How do you pair the DJI Goggles 3 with a drone?
Pairing works the same on every supported drone: update the firmware on the goggles, the drone, and the controller, switch the goggles to the right aircraft model under Status, then press and hold the power button on both devices until the goggles stop beeping.
