The launch pad is set for the world’s inaugural all-electric powerboat racing championship, the UIM E1 World Championship. E1 is the first of its kind, sanctioned by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the international governing body of powerboating. The clock is ticking, with the first E1 race poised to kick off in Jeddah in January 2024.

In the spotlight of this innovative championship is the RaceBird, the world’s first all-electric foiling race boat, designed to glide above the water’s surface using cutting-edge hydrofoil technology. Norwegian designer Sophi Horne and marine engineer Brunello Acampora are the creative forces behind this game-changing vessel. Not only does it boast speeds nearing 100km/ph, but it also showcases the potential of sustainable technologies in the maritime realm.

“Our mission is to create a new, competitive on-water racing proposition based on clean technologies to protect our waters and coastal areas,” states the E1 championship’s founding principles. The founders, Alejandro Agag and Rodi Basso, are inspired by the triumph of other electric racing forms and are determined to replicate this success on water.

Agag expressed his enthusiasm about this electric venture, stating, “I’m delighted to be launching my third electric world championship and the emotions are always the same. I’m very pleased to start our calendar in Jeddah, before visiting other cities who are also aligned with our mission and passionate about E1.”

He is eagerly anticipating the championship’s commencement in early 2024, wishing luck to all the participating teams.

The buzz around the championship is growing, with a pre-season showcase scheduled from September 1 to 3 in Rotterdam, The . This high-speed, eco-friendly championship promises to add a fresh wave of excitement to the world of competitive racing, blending speed, sustainability, and the splendor of our water bodies in a pioneering endeavor.

We hope that the UIM E1 World Championship will continue using FPV drones to capture the action on the race course!
