Ukraine has announced a new initiative to develop a drone interceptor capable of taking down Russian reconnaissance drones, according to military drone expert Sam Bendett. The project, spearheaded by Mykhailo Fedorov, aims to provide a solution for shooting down enemy drones without depleting air defense resources.
Call for Developers and Engineers
The Ukrainian government is actively seeking developers and engineers to create a drone interceptor that can effectively engage Russian UAVs such as the Orlan, SuperCam, and ZALA. These reconnaissance drones play a crucial role in directing Russian artillery and strike UAVs, making it imperative to find an efficient way to neutralize them.
The key requirements for the interceptor drone include:
- Ability to shoot down targets flying at speeds of 100-150 km/h
- Operational altitude of up to 1,500 meters
Interceptor Drone Capabilities
Interested developers must demonstrate how their proposed solution will:
- Receive advance information about the target from the detection system
- Take off, locate the target, and initiate pursuit
- Autonomously engage the enemy drone
Submission Process and Next Steps
Developers with ready-made solutions are encouraged to fill out the provided form. If the development meets the specified requirements, the Brave1 cluster will contact the applicants and assist in further developing the drone.
Bendett emphasizes the importance of this project, stating that “Orlan, SuperCam or ZALA reconnaissance drones above the front line are eyes for Russian artillery and strike UAVs, so a solution must be found to shoot them down without wasting air defense assets.”
Get Involved and Strengthen Ukraine’s Military
The Ukrainian government is calling on developers and engineers to get involved in this critical project by applying to the Brave1 initiative. By contributing their skills and expertise, individuals can directly strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities and help protect the nation from Russian aggression.
