Russian Drones Violate NATO Airspace, Sparking Concerns

Romanian Airspace Breach

Romania’s defense ministry said a drone entered its airspace early Sunday during Russian attacks on Ukrainian targets across the Danube. The country deployed F-16 warplanes to monitor the situation and issued text alerts to residents in two eastern regions.

Latvian Drone Crash

In a separate incident, Latvia’s defense minister reported that a Russian drone crashed near the town of Rezekne on Saturday. The drone likely strayed from neighboring Belarus.

NATO’s Response

NATO’s outgoing deputy secretary general, Mircea Geoană, condemned Russia’s violation of Romanian airspace. He stated on X (formerly Twitter):

“While we have no information indicating an intentional attack by Russia against allies, these acts are irresponsible and potentially dangerous.”

Ongoing Drone Attacks

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military reported that Russia launched an overnight drone attack on Kyiv. Air defense units were engaged in repelling the strikes.
