DJI Osmo Mobile 7 Splits Into Two Models: Standard and Pro Versions Leaked

DroneXL.co has exclusively obtained photos of DJI’s upcoming DJI Osmo Mobile 7 series, showcasing both standard and Pro variants ahead of their anticipated launch in the coming weeks. The leaked images provide an unprecedented look at DJI’s next-generation smartphone gimbals, marking a significant evolution from the current Osmo Mobile 6.

Building upon the success of the Osmo Mobile 6, which launched in September 2022 at $159, the seventh generation appears poised to maintain similar pricing for the standard model, with the Pro variant expected to command a premium for its additional features. This two-tier approach represents a new strategy for DJI’s mobile gimbal line.

DJI Osmo Mobile 7 Pro Model Enhancements

The Osmo Mobile 7 Pro, distinguished by its dark grey finish, offers several professional-grade features for DJI’s mobile gimbal lineup:

A precision manual focus and zoom wheel mounted on the handle’s side promises more fluid camera control. This mechanical implementation is expected to improve upon the Osmo Mobile 6’s side wheel, offering both better zoom and focus pulling capabilities for more sophisticated shot composition.

The Pro model integrates dedicated subject tracking camera hardware, including a fill light camera system. This represents a substantial upgrade from the ActiveTrack 6.0 system found in the current model, suggesting even more reliable, and possibly AI-powered subject tracking across challenging scenarios.

The DJI Osmo Mobile 7 appears to also include the DJI Mic Mini for improved audio recording while filming or vlogging.

Another Pro-exclusive feature appears to be the telescopic extension arm, building upon the 8.5-inch extension rod concept introduced with the Osmo Mobile 6 but with improved implementation for the content creator market.

Shared Features Across Both Models

The white-colored standard Osmo Mobile 7 and its Pro sibling share several core features that evolve the foundation established by their predecessor:

Both devices retain the magnetic phone mounting system, which has become a hallmark of recent DJI mobile gimbals and supports phones up to 3.3 inches wide. The control layout includes a joystick for precise gimbal movements and menu navigation, alongside dedicated record and memory buttons for quick access to essential functions.

A small display panel, likely LED or OLED, provides status information including battery life, active features, and connectivity status. This appears to be an enhancement of the status panel introduced with the Osmo Mobile 6. The gimbals incorporate built-in tripod feet, continuing DJI’s focus on versatility.

Additional shared features include:

  • A camera flip switch for rapid selfie mode and landscape/portrait transitions
  • A trigger button positioned for index finger control
  • USB-C charging capability
  • Zoom controls on the left side
  • An included carrying pouch

Market Implications

DJI’s decision to split the Osmo Mobile line into standard and Pro models marks a strategic shift in their mobile videography approach. This segmentation mirrors DJI’s successful drone portfolio strategy, potentially allowing them to better serve both casual users and more professional content creators.

The timing of this leak, combined with historical DJI release patterns and FCC filings, suggests an imminent launch. While the Osmo Mobile 6 was revealed in September 2022, the seventh generation’s development appears to have taken additional time to perfect its expanded feature set, particularly for the Pro variant.

The introduction of professional features like the focus wheel and dedicated tracking hardware on the Pro model indicates DJI’s recognition of smartphones’ increasing role in professional content creation. With the current Osmo Mobile 6 recently seeing price reductions to €99 in European markets, the stage appears set for this new generation to redefine mobile videography capabilities across both consumer and professional segments.

Final pricing and availability details remain to be officially announced, though based on DJI’s historical pricing strategy, we expect the standard Osmo Mobile 7 to launch at a price point similar to its predecessor’s original $139, with the Pro model commanding a premium for its additional capabilities.

  1. The biggest issue here is that DJI Mimo app is not supporting ProRes Log recording, hence all cool features are useless for filmmakers as they have to use 3rd party or native app.
