DJI Fly App and RC 2 Firmware Update – New Drone Flight Simulator Built-In

Good day, folks! Shawn here from Air Photography. Today, I’m sharing a quick video about yesterday’s big announcements. They launched the Mavic 4 Pro and the new RC Pro 2, alongside updates for the DJI Fly app and the RC2 controller. Let’s dive into what’s new, starting with the Fly app.

DJI Fly App Update

The is now at version 1.17.0. The main update adds support for the Mavic 4 Pro. A standout new feature is the ability to sync waypoint missions across drones, even when using different controllers. This feature automatically syncs your waypoint missions via the cloud, making it easier to transfer them between devices.

When you launch the app for the first time, you’ll need to enable this feature. It will prompt you when accessing waypoint missions, or you can toggle it in the controller settings. Note that this feature is temporarily unavailable in the US, but I expect it to roll out soon.

To demonstrate, I created a waypoint mission on my Mini 4 Pro last year. On the RC2 Pro, without connecting to my drone, I can access the camera view and see two waypoint missions from 2023 synced via the cloud. Some features may vary depending on the drone’s capabilities, but this is a highly convenient addition. Keep in mind that controllers need an internet connection to sync waypoints, so you may need to tether to your phone in the field.

RC2 Controller Enhancements

Next, let’s look at the RC2 controller, which now includes a built-in flight simulator, a feature first introduced with the RC2 Pro. To access it, tap the button at the top of the interface. The simulator offers training courses or an immersive flight mode. The RC2 Pro provides multiple maps, while the RC2 is limited to oneโ€”a skate parkโ€”likely due to its smaller storage capacity. The RC2 Pro boasts 128 GB of built-in storage, which supports more maps, but future updates may bring additional maps to the RC2.

The flight simulator is impressive, currently supporting only the Mavic 4 Pro. It simulates real-world flying, including obstacle avoidance. For example, as I approach a building, the simulator prevents a collision. You can switch between flight modes like Cine or Sport, and it tracks battery life, RC signal strength, and satellite connections. Future updates will allow camera setting adjustments, such as switching between photo and video modes. You can also customize settings like button assignments, gain and expo tuning, and obstacle avoidance.

This simulator is a great tool for beginners to build confidence or for seasoned pilots to practice maneuvers and refine skills.

Additional RC2 Update

The RC2 now fully supports the Mavic 4 Pro, ensuring compatibility if you purchase the new drone.

Conclusion

That’s a quick overview of yesterday’s DJI updates, including the DJI Fly app and RC2 enhancements. I hope you found this video valuable. Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one!
