DJI Fly App: Compatible Drones, OS Support & Geofencing

The DJI Fly app explained from our coverage: which drones use it, iOS version support history, the January 2025 geofencing change, and how it replaced GO 4.

DJI Fly is the app that flies every modern DJI consumer drone, and its update history decides which phones, which drones, and which airspace rules apply to millions of pilots.

Which drones use the DJI Fly app?

Everything since the original Mavic Mini. Our GO 4 succession coverage lists the split: Mavic Mini, Mavic Air 2, Mini 2, DJI FPV, Air 2S, and Mini SE moved to Fly, while GO 4 kept the Mavic 2 series, Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Pro, and Spark. Every consumer launch since has shipped on Fly.

What phones and OS versions does DJI Fly support?

The app dropped iOS 10 after v1.1.10 in November 2020, and dropped iOS 12 and earlier from v1.13.4 in April 2024, with DJI recommending iOS 13 or later.

How does geofencing work in DJI Fly now?

Since January 2025, DJI no longer hard-blocks flight in restricted zones: FlySafe shows advisory warnings that pilots can acknowledge and unlock in the app, placing responsibility on the operator. The change applies through the DJI Fly FlySafe flow.

DJI Fly vs DJI GO 4

Fly was built to be simpler. A DJI employee told us at the Mavic Mini launch that GO 4 was too complicated to keep evolving across old and new drones, and GO 4 has been in maintenance mode since Local Data Mode arrived in December 2020. Full GO 4 status: our DJI GO 4 hub.

Does DJI Fly still enforce geofencing?

DJI removed enforced geofencing in January 2025: restricted zones became advisory warnings that pilots can acknowledge and unlock through the FlySafe flow inside the app, shifting responsibility to the operator.

What app came before DJI Fly?

DJI GO 4, which still flies the Mavic 2 series, Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Pro, and Spark. DJI told us at the Mavic Mini launch that Fly was the way forward because GO 4 was too complicated to maintain.
