SkyRover X1 Review – Incredible New Mini Drone

Good day, folks! Shawn here from Air Photography. Today, I’m excited to share a new drone entering the market: the SkyRover X1. The sub-250 g drone market is flooded with options, and I usually steer clear because many are lackluster and underperform. However, the Sky Rover X1 is an exception. Initially, I was hesitant when the company reached out, given past experiences with other brands, but this drone has been a delightful surprise.

Key Features and Design

The SkyRover X1 is a small, lightweight, foldable drone, making it ideal for travel or those seeking an affordable, compact option. It features front-facing sensors, two rear sensors, and bottom sensors for 360-degree omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. It also includes a USB-C charging port and a memory card slot.

Impressive Camera Capabilities

For a sub-250 g drone, the SkyRover X1 boasts a remarkable camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and an f/1.7 aperture. It supports 4K 60fps recording, slow-motion 4K at 100fps, and a flat color profile. The rotatable camera enables true vertical filming, perfect for social media content creators, as it uses the full sensor without cropping. The video quality is excellent, and it even offers a night mode for well-exposed footage in low-light conditions.

Performance and Signal Strength

The SkyRover X1 features a robust transmission system called Skybridge, rated for a 15 km range. While you’re unlikely to fly it that far, this ensures a strong connection in environments with trees or heavy Wi-Fi interference. After eight weeks of testing, I can confirm its reliability.

Intelligent Flight Modes

The drone is packed with intelligent flight features that perform exceptionally well:

  • Focus Track: Includes Point of Interest (rotate around a set point), Spotlight (locks the camera on a point while you fly), and Active Track (more details in an upcoming video).
  • Waypoint Missions: Set and save waypoints for automated flights.
  • Panoramas: Capture and stitch panoramas directly in the app.
  • Hyperlapses: Create dynamic time-lapse videos.

The drone also supports return-to-home functionality, including failsafe return if the battery is low or the connection is lost, landing accurately near its takeoff point.

Obstacle Avoidance and Flight Modes

The SkyRover X1’s obstacle avoidance is active in Cine and Normal modes but disabled in Sport mode. You can adjust settings to stop the drone or bypass obstacles. This is particularly helpful for new pilots or when flying sideways or backward, though precautions are still necessary.

Controller and App

The drone comes with a comfortable, compact controller with removable sticks and cables for USB-C and Lightning, ensuring compatibility with various phones. The beta app I tested has a simple, stable interface with critical information displayed clearly. The final version should be even more polished.

FlyMore Kit and Final Thoughts

While the exact packages are unclear, I expect a base kit with the drone, one battery, and the controller. The FlyMore kit includes three batteries, a charging hub, and a carrying case, offering great value. The charging hub supports charging batteries directly in the drone or separately.

The SkyRover X1 is an excellent choice for beginners or professionals needing a sub-250 g drone for restricted areas. Its precise flight control, feature-rich design, and high-quality video make it stand out. If you’re interested, subscribe for more in-depth videos in the coming weeks. Thanks for watching this one, and we’ll see you in the next one!

DroneXL’s Take

The SkyRover X1 seems to compete head on with the DJI Mini 4 Pro and oddly similar to the DJI mini drone. Even the app used for the SkyRover X1 seem to be based on the DJI Fly App. Is this another DJI clone, like the one from Spectra?

  1. To answer the question. Its a company tryin to do what dji do but will fail in the end cuz dji is king!

  2. The skyrover x1 is a dji mini 4 pro. It is identical except it’s yellow. The software is also identical.

  3. I need an open API.

Why would anyone want a easier seen yellow drone? Most of the people I know don’t want their drone to be heard nor seen.

  4. It is just a copy, you can see it on the design, shape, and weight. You stated that the app was based off of DJI fly, so why would they not copy the drone.
