With just 14 days until the December 23 deadline that could restrict DJI products in America, Pilot Institute is giving the drone community a chance to make their voices heard on the DJI Ban.

Greg Reverdiau, Head of Training at Pilot Institute, has launched a new survey collecting feedback from UAS operators on how current U.S. government actions are affecting them now, or could affect them in the future.

The survey is anonymous and takes approximately five minutes to complete. Participants can enter a drawing to win one of three $150 Amazon gift cards.

DJI Ban: Why This Survey Matters Now

Section 1709 of the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act set December 23, 2025 as the deadline for a federal security review of DJI. If no agency completes the audit by that date, DJI will automatically be added to the FCC’s Covered List, blocking new drone imports.

No federal agency has confirmed they are conducting the mandated assessment, despite DJI requesting the review nine months ago.

This survey represents an opportunity for drone pilots, from hobbyists to commercial operators to first responders, to document how these regulatory actions impact real operations on the ground.

Pilot Institute’s Track Record

Pilot Institute has used survey data to advocate for drone operators before. In 2023, their Remote ID survey data helped convince the FAA to delay enforcement when the original timeline proved unworkable.

With over 250,000 pilots trained, Pilot Institute maintains direct relationships with regulators and can present community feedback where it matters.

DroneXL’s Take

We encourage every drone pilot to take five minutes and complete this survey. With the December 23 deadline approaching and no security audit in sight, data showing how restrictions affect real operators could influence whether lawmakers push for an extension or evidence-based review.
