The partnership covers the implementation and operation of Everdroneโ€™s drone system, which is designed to rapidly deliver defibrillators and provide early situational awareness during accidents and acute medical incidents, as stated on their press release.

According to Everdrone, the system will allow emergency services to receive critical information from the scene before ambulances arrive, while also cutting response times for life saving equipment. The agreement runs until spring 2027, with system implementation and testing scheduled ahead of a transition to operational deployment during 2026.

โ€œThe collaboration demonstrates a growing understanding that autonomous drone systems can strengthen societyโ€™s preparedness and deliver assistance very quickly in acute and life threatening situations,โ€ said Mats Sรคllstrรถm, CEO of Everdrone.

From analysis to real world operations

Before signing the agreement, Everdrone and regional authorities conducted a detailed analysis of past emergency incidents and airspace availability across Stockholm. That work helped determine where drone bases should be placed to maximize coverage and response speed while maintaining safety in one of Europeโ€™s busiest urban airspaces.

โ€œWe have already conducted an analysis of previous acute incidents as well as airspace availability to determine the geographical placement of the drone system,โ€ Sรคllstrรถm said. โ€œThe agreement is another important step in our work to make fast and safe drone based emergency responses available.โ€

Stockholm becomes the second Swedish region to partner with Everdrone, following Vรคstra Gรถtaland, where the companyโ€™s defibrillator delivery drones have been operational for several years. That earlier project has often been cited as one of the strongest real world examples of medical drones moving beyond pilot programs and into daily use.

Expanding medical drone services in Sweden

With this new partnership, Everdrone will contribute to faster delivery of life saving equipment and improved decision support for emergency responders in the Stockholm region.

The company says the system is designed to complement, not replace, traditional ambulance services by extending their reach during the critical first minutes of an emergency.

โ€œWe can now contribute to faster delivery of life saving equipment and improved decision support in the Stockholm region,โ€ Sรคllstrรถm said. โ€œIt is encouraging that another Swedish region is now taking the step to introduce drone technology as a complement to emergency medical services.โ€

Everdrone focuses on drone solutions for public benefit and emergency medical care, operating multiple drone bases across Sweden and Europe. The company works with both national and international partners to develop systems capable of delivering defibrillators and gathering crucial information at accident scenes.

DroneXLโ€™s Take

This is the kind of drone use many of us were hoping to see from the very beginning. Not flashy demonstrations or tech for techโ€™s sake, but practical systems that quietly save lives by beating traffic, distance, and human reaction time.

Delivering defibrillators within minutes and giving ambulance crews early situational awareness is exactly where autonomous drones make the most sense.

If the drone industry wants lasting public trust and serious regulatory momentum, medical response programs like this are the blueprint. This is drones doing what they do best, showing up first when every second matters.
