It’s lidar, and there is a video on YouTube showing it in action, the clip is about 20 seconds long and in part of the video you can see the LiDAR Scanner activated by rapid pulses, not the same as infrared, it will be a single window angle lens with some tweaking to account for the off centre placement, perhaps the rear has it as well

  2. It is LIDAR but not for obstacle avoidance, per se. It is a rangefinder feature that, when tied with the optical obstacle avoidance sensors, helps operators understand how far away their subject is. The Mavic 4T that just came out has that, but it is housed in the camera ball. This is my best guess.
