DJI Ronin RS2 delayed but comes in two versions

A recent tweet from DJI Global indicates that the launch of the DJI Ronin RS2 is delayed, but that there will be two versions of this popular handheld gimbal stabilizer. A third photo shows what seems to be a pre-production model of the RS2 balancing a hefty RED Komodo camera and cinema lens, indicating that the new gimbal combines lightweight and strong performance.

Update: later in the afternoon we received a confirmation from DJI:

“At DJI, our goal is always to bring products to the market that inspire creativity and push the industry forward. After careful consideration, we have decided to reschedule the September 9th announcement for a later date in October. We ask you to stay tuned a little longer to see a lot more. The next generation of gimbal technology will now be unveiled next month, so we can present the world's creators with two incredible new options for capturing the world around you.”

DJI Ronin RS2 delayed but comes in two versions

On August 28, DJI released the following tweet announcing the launch of the new DJI Ronin RS2 handheld gimbal stabilizer on September 9 at 10:30 p.m. EDT. However, in one of the company's most recent tweets, we see two versions of the Ronin RS2 with a new date in the background saying ‘2020.10', indicating a delayed release of the new gimbal. No reason has been provided by the Chinese dronemaker for the delay of the release. We have reached out to them and will update this post if we hear back from DJI.

Dji Ronin Rs2 Delayed But Comes In Two Versions

On a more positive note though, the new photo shows two DJI Ronin RS2 gimbals. the one on the left looks the same as the gimbal we have seen in earlier photos. It has a distinctive red line and carbon fiber look, indicating that it is likely a lightweight, pro-version of the gimbal. On the right in the same photo, we see part of a similar gimbal shown in matte black without the red-line and carbon look. This leads us to believe that we are likely to see a more performance orientated pro-version together with a less-expansive, heavier prosumer version of the new DJI Ronin RS2.

Let us know what you think about the new DJI Ronin RS2 and what you think the differences might be between the two versions in the comments below.

  1. It sucks that there won’t even be an announcement on 09.09.2020. Its ok to delay the launch, but please, DJI, tell us what the products are and what their prices will be. Many others like me have been holding out on buying a new gimbal just because we’re waiting for new ones from you. If they are too expensive, I’d just go with the old Ronin S.
