A drone is used to help find a lost kayaker who went missing overnight off Wellington’s southern coast in New Zealand. Strong winds have hampered the search efforts that included both helicopters and drones.

Last week, in the waters of Tarakina Bay near the southern end of the Wellington airport runway a kayak was found. The police have identified the person who was on the vessel but have yet to find him.
During the search for the missing kayaker, a drone, helicopters, defense forces, and other resources have been used.
According to Chief Vicky Rowland from the Wellington Coast Guard, search and rescue crews were out looking for the missing kayaker until 11:30 pm Sunday evening. The search resumed on Monday morning.
The kayak would found on Sunday afternoon with freshly caught fish on board.
Strong winds of up to 40 knots have made search efforts more difficult and will impact the ability to use drones to aid in the efforts, reports The Informant.
