The DJI Mini 2 is and remains a marvel of technology. Despite its small dimensions and weight, the drone offers particularly good image quality. The Russian filmmaker Vadim Sherbakov also proves this, who made beautiful shots of the frozen Lake Baikal with his DJI Mini 2. Thanks to the color grading and the oppressive sound design, the images come into their own.
The Noor, frozen Lake Baikal captured with DJI Mini 2
You regularly see drone videos from Vadim. This is not entirely coincidental, because his cinematic aerial shots of wild landscapes are a feast for the eyes. So is his new video “The Noor”. Vadim tells about it:
“The Noor is a short drone film shot entirely with the DJI Mini 2. It features beautiful landscapes of frozen Lake Baikal in the Eastern Siberia region of Russia. “Noor” (Нуур) is a Buryat word for “more”. The Buryat are the indigenous people of this area. I thought it appropriate to use their fancy word for this short film.
The region around Lake Baikal is especially popular with tourists in winter. When frozen, the lake is one of the most beautiful locations in the world. Rocky cliffs freeze during the winter storms. The white and blue colored ice is great for photographing.
My main goal as a video maker was to portray Lake Baikal from a slightly different perspective. Today it is a lively place with many tourists and photographers, but I want to show how the area was experienced by people who lived there years ago. I tried to translate the frozen environment, the harsh conditions, and the raw beauty of this place into sound, cinematography, and color. I hope you enjoy it.”
