Sky Drone introduces ready-to-fly 5G drone for BVLOS missions
Sky Drone specializes in drone connectivity technology and has been a leader in 4G/LTE drone equipment in recent years. For some time now, the company has also been developing 5G network equipment to enable long-haul flights. Sky Drone recently entered into a partnership with the German Droniq (a joint venture of German air traffic control and Deutsche Telekom) for this purpose.
The new Sky Drone Mk1 has a maximum flight time of 45 minutes. The maximum take-off weight (MTOM) is 3.4 kg. Sky Drone Mk1 is controlled from a PC or tablet-based ground station with an optional joystick/gamepad controller. No traditional controller is required for control: all control commands are sent over the 4G / 5G network. The system is compatible with ground control software such as QGroundControl and Mission Planner.
RTK GPS and FLARM
The drone is equipped with a 4K/20-Megapixel camera as standard. Live video images are transferred in HD quality via the mobile network. The drone has RTK GPS for navigation purposes. Optionally, the drone can be equipped with a FLARM collision avoidance system.
To connect, the drone requires a data-enabled SIM card. Sky Drone Mk1 has global compatibility with mobile networks, including major carriers in all Countries around the world. The drone has already been shipped to international pre-order customers for industrial, commercial, and government use.
“Sky Drone Mk1 is an important milestone in the evolution of autonomous flying drones. It is now possible to order a 5G drone ready to fly from us. The aircraft comes off the shelf and can be used anywhere in the world, ”said Boris Boege, CEO of Sky Drone.
Sky Drone Mk1 ships worldwide and can be ordered from the Sky Drone website at www.skydrone.aero.
