DJI, SkyPixel 8th annual drone photo and video contest with $143 in prizes

The 8th Annual SkyPixel Photo & Video Contest places a fresh focus on narrative and provides a bigger prize fund than ever before, according to DJI and , one of the most well-known online communities for aerial photography and cinematography.

The SkyPixel contest, which runs from November 9, 2022, to January 30, 2023, invites photographers and videographers to “The Story Behind” their aerial and handheld photos to excite the aerial photography community like never before.

The overall prize amount has risen to about US $143,000 to encourage innovators to take part.

The Story Behind

With “The Story Behind” serving as the contest’s main subject, DJI and SkyPixel are placing the craft of storytelling at the forefront of each photograph in this eighth edition. Participants’ videos or photos must have a message and a deeper significance. Each of the 10 categories prompts a particular kind of tale, which participants may further develop via their own visual storytelling. Participants are free to submit as many photographs or films as they like, with no restrictions on the kind or brand of drones they utilize.

Claudio Miranda, an Academy Award-winning cinematographer, Anne Farrar, assistant managing editor of photography for National Geographic Magazine, Phil Pastuhov, director of cinematography for movies like The Lord of the Rings, Master Benjamin Everett, Tobias Hägg, George Steinmetz, director of photography Toby Strong, and other incredible professionals in the field will judge submissions.

Largest SkyPixel Prize Pool Ever

This year, SkyPixel and DJI will offer more than 42 prizes totaling about US $143,000, which is the greatest total prize value in contest history. One video and one picture participant will each get the Hasselblad 907X Anniversary Edition Kit, complete with a trophy and award certificate, for the grand winners recognized for Best Work. The , Osmo Action 3, and US$13,700 in DJI Credit are prizes in other categories.

The video contest consists of six categories:

The City Category – Urban Inspiration – Cities can have the power to transform the people who live in them. They can influence outlooks, create communities, and ignite passions. Show how a city shapes those who visit it and those who call it home.

The Travel Category – Destination: Beautiful – For everyone, traveling can be a joy. For some, it’s magic. While it can be impossible to explain, it can be experienced to last a lifetime. Take us on a journey using your love of travel.

The Sports Category – More Than a Game – Sports have a way of playing a massive part in our lives. They keep us fit, connect us with others, and drive us to be better. Take us for a ride and show the world what your sport means to you.

The Story Category – Worth a Thousand Words – Do you have a story worth telling? Capture it with a lens and share it with the world. Have your voice heard and change someone’s outlook. This is your time. You have the stage.

The Vertical Category – From a Different Perspective – The world has fallen in love with vertical videos, and it’s easy to see why. Take advantage of a taller frame to share a moment worth looking up to.

Please note: All videos submitted must not exceed five minutes in length. The entry must contain at least 30 seconds of aerial footage.

The Sports Category – More Than a Game – Sports have a way of playing a massive part in our lives. They keep us fit, connect us with others, and drive us to be better. Take us for a ride and show the world what your sport means to you.

Please note: All photos must be shot on a drone, and each image must be at least 3 MB with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. EXIF data should be retained.
