In a remarkable turn of events, a California resident’s hobby turned into a crime-solving activity when his drone was instrumental in apprehending a suspect in a home invasion. The Hercules Police Department has honored the man for his unexpected contribution to the case.
On Sunday, a home in Hercules fell victim to a burglary. The perpetrator, a teenager, made off with a significant haul – $30,000 in cash and other possessions. However, the suspect didn’t manage to evade the watchful eyes of a neighbor and his drone.
Just hours after the incident, the drone operator stumbled upon the hiding place of the young suspect. When the teenager attempted to make a getaway in an Uber, the drone pilot tipped off the police, who promptly intercepted the vehicle.
With the assistance of the drone’s surveillance footage, the police reportedly were able to confirm the identity of the suspect. A search of the Uber vehicle revealed the stolen property, leading to the arrest and subsequent detention of the teenager.
This case not only highlights the vigilance of this community member but also showcases the unexpected role of personal drones in supporting law enforcement.
