A video supposedly showing the DJI Air 3S shared on Twitter today has sparked excitement among drone enthusiasts, potentially unveiling the successor to the popular DJI Air 3 drone. The footage, reportedly captured at DJI’s Sky City facility in Shenzhen, China, showcases what appears to be a prototype of the DJI Air 3S, featuring a noticeably larger camera and gimbal module.

Bigger Camera, Better Aerial Footage

The leaked images reveal a drone that bears a striking resemblance to the DJI Air 3 but with some key differences. Most notably, the camera and gimbal assembly appears significantly larger than its predecessor.

“I saw a drone I had never seen before; the gimbal camera is much larger than that of the AIR3,” stated the source of the images in a post.

This upgrade suggests that the Air 3S could boast dual cameras with larger image sensors, potentially offering improved low-light performance and overall photo and video quality.

Testing in Progress

The photos were reportedly taken at DJI’s Sky City, likely a testing ground for new products. One image shows a person wearing a DJI-branded t-shirt, adding credibility to the leak’s authenticity.

“This is what happened: Today, while flying a drone at DJI Sky City, I saw a guy holding a strange-looking drone,” the source explained.

Anticipated Release

Based on the frequency of recent leaks, industry insiders speculate that the DJI Air 3S could hit the market as soon as late summer or early fall. If the new model combines the popular features of the Air 3 with enhanced imaging capabilities, it could be a significant upgrade for aerial photographers and videographers.

DroneXL’s Take

The potential release of a DJI Air 3S with upgraded camera capabilities aligns with DJI’s history of iterative improvements. If these leaks prove accurate, the Air 3S could bridge the gap between the consumer-friendly Air series and more professional-grade drones in DJI’s lineup.

Recent DJI product releases have shown a trend towards improved imaging performance across their drone range. The larger camera module on this alleged Air 3S prototype suggests DJI is continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible in compact, consumer-oriented drones.

As always, it’s important to approach leaks with caution. However, if the Air 3S lives up to these early glimpses, it could be a game-changer for aerial content creators looking for professional-quality results in a more accessible package.
