DJI Flip Drone Price Expected at $439 in US, €439 in EU Including Controller

DJI’s upcoming Flip drone will be priced at €439 (including VAT) in with the RC-N3 controller, according to new details shared by DJI watcher Jasper Ellens. Based on typical pricing patterns, this suggests a likely US price point of around $439.

Understanding the Price Difference

The European price of €439 includes up to 23% VAT (Value Added Tax), while US prices are typically quoted without sales tax. When accounting for this tax difference, the US price tends to align with the pre-tax European figure, which would put the Flip at approximately $439 in the American market. This pricing pattern has been observed across many previous DJI product launches.

Design and Camera System

The newly leaked image shows the Flip’s distinctive design, which bears an uncanny resemblance to the iconic AT-AT walkers from Star Wars. Perhaps most notably, the drone will feature a 2-axis gimbal system rather than the 3-axis configuration found in most modern DJI drones. This departure from the standard setup raises interesting questions about the drone’s intended use case and camera stabilization capabilities.

Technical Features

While earlier leaks focused on the Flip’s ducted propeller design and safety features, this update confirms the inclusion of -based obstacle sensing technology. The drone is expected to incorporate advanced AI tracking features and gesture recognition capabilities, suggesting DJI is targeting both newcomers and experienced pilots with this release.

FPV Capabilities

Ellens raises an intriguing question about the Flip’s potential FPV (First Person View) capabilities, particularly given its 2-axis camera system. While traditional typically utilize fixed or single-axis cameras, the Flip’s dual-axis stabilization could offer a unique middle ground between aggressive FPV flight and smoother cinematic footage.

Market Positioning

At $439 including the RC-N3 controller, the Flip appears positioned between DJI’s entry-level and more advanced models, such as the Pro. The inclusion of the RC-N3 controller in the base package adds significant value, as this controller typically costs around $129 when purchased separately on Amazon.

The continues to generate interest within the drone community, combining innovative design elements with practical features. As more details emerge, it will be interesting to see how this unique aircraft fits into DJI’s broader strategy for 2025 and beyond.
