Hylio has unveiled its most advanced agricultural drone system to date, the HYL-150 ARES, manufactured in Texas and designed specifically for heavy-use agricultural operators. The system introduces significant payload and coverage capabilities that could reshape how large-scale agricultural operations approach crop treatment.
The HYL-150’s technical specifications demonstrate its focus on high-volume applications. The system carries a 110-pound (13-gallon) liquid payload capacity, while maintaining the same weight capacity for solid products with an increased volume capacity of up to 21 gallons. This robust carrying capability translates to impressive coverage rates – up to 50 acres per hour when applying liquids at 2 gallons per acre, or 120 acres per hour when distributing solid products at 20 pounds per acre.
Application versatility appears to be a key design priority. The system features interchangeable application systems, including configurable hydraulic nozzles, rotary atomizers, and a rotary spreader device. With a 40-foot swath width, the HYL-150 can treat hundreds of acres per day as a single unit. When operating in swarm configuration with multiple units, the system can handle thousands of acres daily.
The drone’s control system combines autonomous and manual operation capabilities through Hylio’s proprietary AgroSol ground control software. Operators can program treatment maps through an intuitive interface that allows for boundary drawing and obstacle marking. The NDAA-compliant Groundlink ground station solution integrates a Windows tablet with an RC controller, enabling seamless transitions between autonomous and manual control modes for single or multiple drones.

Real-time operational monitoring is handled through an array of sensors that track critical metrics including GPS position, flowrate, and altitude. The system stores all flight and treatment data within user accounts, providing access to as-applied maps and maintenance records through the Hylio interface.
Power management centers on Hylio’s 18S30Ah LiPo Batteries, specifically engineered for demanding outdoor operations. The battery system features a blade connector and locking mechanism for secure and rapid swapping. The accompanying 18S 9KW LiPo Dual-Channel Charger, capable of 120A total output, can charge two batteries simultaneously in 20-25 minutes or a single battery in 10-12 minutes.
The HYL-150 ARES’s American manufacturing credentials, combined with its mix of U.S. and global components, make it NDAA compliant – a significant factor for certain agricultural operations and potential government applications. The system builds on Hylio’s existing relationships with notable organizations including Texas A&M, RiceTec, Mitre Corporation, USDA, U.S. Department of State, AgEagle, King Ranch, and 21st Century Equipment.
