Drone Tech Meets Trail Bikes

DJI’s entry into the e-bike market leverages the same motor and battery expertise that made them dominant in drones. The Avinox M1 drive system delivers 105 Nm of torque and 850 watts of peak power in standard mode, jumping to 120 Nm and 1,000 watts in 30-second Boost bursts.

For context, competitors Bosch and Shimano max out at 85 Nm and 600 watts.

The motor weighs just 5.5 pounds (2.52 kg), achieving one of the highest power-to-weight ratios in the industry. Combined with the 5-pound (2.27 kg) carbon fiber frame, complete bike weights start at 42.3 pounds (19.2 kg) for the Pro model.

Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director of DJI Studio Europe, previously hinted at potential integration between the company’s drone and e-bike divisions. “It will certainly be interesting if a drone can follow an e-biker or the other way around,” Wolf said, noting possibilities for sharing bike position, speed, and trajectory data with aerial platforms.

DroneXL’s Take

DJI’s diversification beyond drones continues to accelerate. We first spotted leaked photos of the Amflow e-bikes back in July 2024, and since then, the company has brought its drone technology expertise to e-bike drive systems with impressive results.

This strategy makes business sense. While DJI faces ongoing regulatory uncertainty in the US drone market, with deadlines like the December 23 FCC equipment authorization decision looming, its e-bike and robotics divisions face no such restrictions. The DJI Romo robotic vacuum represents another example of the company leveraging its motor and software expertise in new markets.

At $6,499, the Amflow PL Carbon now undercuts the Specialized Turbo Levo 4 Comp Alloy ($7,299) while delivering superior torque and power output. That’s the kind of value disruption DJI became famous for in the drone industry.

Whether you’re a drone pilot looking for a new way to explore trails or simply interested in where DJI’s engineering talent is heading next, this first-ever sale offers a rare discount on what many consider the most innovative e-MTB of 2024-2025.
