DJI Osmo Mobile 8P to launch globally, May 7th

After launching in China last week, DJI is now gearing up for a wider rollout of its latest smartphone gimbal. The company is set to unveil the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P globally on May 7th, 2026, marking the next step in its popular Osmo Mobile lineup.

DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Incoming?

DJI quietly shared a teaser on its website with the title “Wonders in Your Palm”, hinting at the remote control feature.

DJI Osmo Mobile 8P Features

Originally expected to be released as the Osmo Mobile 9, DJI has instead opted for the name “8P,” with the “P” standing for “Pro.” This aligns with DJI’s broader product strategy, similar to the anticipate, but not yet released, Pocket 4 Pro.

Detachable Display & Remote Control

A standout feature is the removable display module, which doubles as a remote control. This allows users to frame shots, control settings, and operate the gimbal from a distance, ideal for solo creators and dynamic scenarios.

ActiveTrack 8.0

DJI’s upgraded tracking system improves the DJI Osmo Mobile 8P’s subject recognition and stability in complex scenes, making it easier to follow people, animals, vehicles, and other moving subjects.

Multi-Function Tracking Module 2

The new tracking module enhances subject locking and introduces an adjustable fill light. Users can choose from 8 levels of brightness and color temperature to better match different lighting conditions.

Intuitive Joystick Controls

The redesigned joystick offers smooth, gear-free control over gimbal movement, zoom, and lighting adjustments, delivering a more natural and precise shooting experience.

Magnetic Quick-Release Design

The remote control can be easily attached or detached from the gimbal handle, enabling flexible shooting setups without compromising stability.

Dual-Camera Tracking

The DJI Osmo Mobile 8P supports synchronized tracking across wide-angle and telephoto lenses, helping capture fast-moving subjects more effectively, ideal for sports and action shots.

Battery & Connectivity

  • Up to 10 hours of battery life
  • Ability to charge your smartphone during use
  • NFC pairing for quick connection
  • Apple DockKit support
  • Compatible with DJI Mic Mini 2

Pricing

The DJI Osmo Mobile 8P starts at ¥899 (~$130) for the base model. The Osmo Mobile 8P AI is priced at ¥1099 (~$160) and includes the Tracking Module 2, while the Osmo Mobile 8P Vlog bundle comes in at ¥1299 (~$190), adding both the Tracking Module 2 and the DJI Mic Mini 2 for a more complete content creation setup.

There is currently no confirmation of a U.S. launch.

DroneXL’s Take

This feels like a natural and well-executed evolution of the Osmo Mobile lineup. The addition of a removable remote adds real flexibility, making it easier to capture moments with friends and family without being tied to the gimbal.

The compatibility with the DJI Mic Mini 2 also feels intentional, positioning this as part of a broader, more complete creator ecosystem rather than a standalone product. Together, they offer a streamlined setup for anyone looking to elevate their mobile content without adding complexity.

Interestingly, now that a global teaser has been made live by DJI, with no sign of the product appearing on the U.S. website, it’s likely this could be another DJI release that won’t officially launch in the country, at least for now.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be a thoughtful upgrade that balances usability with capability. We’re looking forward to getting hands-on with it and seeing how it performs in the real world.
