DJI ROMO to Launch New Version As Reservations Go Live in China

DJI has opened reservations for its next ROMO robot vacuum in China as of May 11, and a newly released render gives us our best look yet at what’s actually inside the thing.

The image shows two pieces: the robot itself on the left in a transparent dock revealing its internals, just like the current generation, and then the new docking station on the right as a clean exterior shot.

Both are finished in DJI’s signature white, and the contrast between the two sides of the render is deliberate. One shows off what’s inside, the other shows how it looks living in your home.

What the Image Actually Shows

The internals of the vacuum reveal a fairly tall dust collection and filtration stack sitting above the drive base. There’s clearly a lot going on in a compact footprint, and the filter housing looks chunky, which is usually a good sign for suction performance and filtration quality. This version looks very similar to the current ROMO series on the market.

The front sensor module is where things get interesting. It looks like it has been tweaked compared to the current model, with what appears to be larger vision cameras. The row of LEDs that sits at the bottom of the current vacuum’s front panel either seems to have been removed entirely or moved behind a diffuser.

If those LEDs are gone, that’s worth paying attention to. It could mean the cameras have shifted to night vision or thermal imaging, which would let the vacuum operate in low light without needing to project its own light source. That would be a meaningful upgrade for anyone running their robot overnight, and it’s exactly the kind of sensor-level improvement you’d expect DJI to tackle given their background.

The Dock Is Designed to Disappear

The docking station on the right is the more interesting part of this image. The exterior is clean and minimal, smooth flat panels with a rectangular footprint that looks more like a kitchen appliance than a robot vacuum base.

The proportions suggest the vacuum actually drives into the dock rather than simply parking in front of it, with a door that closes once it is inside to keep everything hidden. That would make it genuinely easy to tuck into a cupboard or fit flush against cabinetry without looking out of place in a modern home.

On the capacity side, it is clearly large enough to handle auto-empty and water management. There is also a possibility this version supports a direct waterline connection, which would eliminate the need to manually refill the tank. If DJI has done that, it puts this dock in a different category from most of what is on the market.

DroneXL’s Take

Pricing, suction power, battery life, and the full dock feature set are all still unconfirmed. DJI also hasn’t said anything about global availability. The original ROMO launch in mid-2025 was China-first, and this one appears to be following the same pattern.

Reservations are live in China as of May 11. A full launch announcement should follow shortly, and that’s when we’ll get the a full look at the new vacuums from DJI.
