The DJI Air 3 and Air 3S occupy the most useful slot in DJI’s consumer range: the dual-camera middleweight for pilots who want more reach and more wind tolerance than a Mini, without paying flagship money.
The trade-off is weight. The Air sits above 250 grams, so a US recreational pilot has to register it — the rule that pushes so many buyers toward the Mini 5 Pro instead. We put the two head to head because it is the most common real decision in the range, and the honest answer depends more on whether registration is a barrier for you than on any spec.
The other Air 3S story is regulatory. The FCC said DJI can keep importing it, but whether individual shipments cleared Customs proved to be a separate question — which is why availability and street prices have moved around independently of DJI’s own pricing. On the security side, an independent OnDefend audit covering the Air 3S found no backdoors and no foreign data transmission, part of a broader US cybersecurity review DJI cleared.
