DJI GO 4 is the companion flight app for DJI’s pre-2020 consumer drones: the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom, Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic Pro, and Spark. It offers more flight options and settings than its successor, but DJI itself judged it too complicated to keep evolving. At the original Mavic Mini launch, a DJI employee told us the simpler DJI Fly app was the way forward, and every consumer drone since has shipped on Fly.
The app’s most dramatic moment came in July 2020, when researchers at Synacktiv and GRIMM reported that the Android version collected phone data and could self-update outside Google Play review, a story that reached the New York Times front page. DJI disputed the framing but updated the Android app within days, removing the Weibo SDK. Since then GO 4 has lived in maintenance mode: Local Data Mode arrived in December 2020 as the last real feature, and a February 2021 update brought nothing but stability fixes.
The app still matters for one practical reason: compliance. DJI’s November 2023 Mavic 2 firmware added FAA Remote ID support, delivered through GO 4 v4.3.60, keeping those drones legal to fly in the US. Phantom 4 Pro V2 owners were left out and petitioned DJI over it. If you are on a Fly-app drone instead, note that DJI Fly dropped iOS 12 support in 2024.
