GoPro Mission 1 Pro vs DJI Osmo Action 6: Which Should You Buy?

The short answer: the GoPro Mission 1 Pro has retaken the image-quality crown, and the DJI Osmo Action 6 answers with audio, internal memory, and a price roughly $250 lower. Jake Sloan ran both cameras side by side in Alaska, and the title of his original test says where he landed: GoPro’s picture is class leading again, and there are still real ways DJI wins.

Why does GoPro win on image quality?

Both cameras ride quad-Bayer sensors, but not the same class of them. GoPro’s new 1-inch chip shoots native 8K at 60 frames per second; the Action 6’s 1/1.1-inch sensor delivers 8K30, a mode DJI added by firmware after launch. Side by side at the glacier, the GoPro footage carries visibly more information: leaves on distant trees, texture in the mountains, detail the Action 6 renders acceptably and the GoPro renders convincingly. Part of that is bit rate, which GoPro Labs can push to 300 Mbps.

The grading story leans the same way. The Action 6’s D-Log M is a fine flat profile; GoPro’s GP-Log 2 is an extremely flat one that grades exceptionally well and extracts the most dynamic range the camera has, which for its size is genuinely impressive. Shooting standard profiles instead? The Action 6’s HDR mode clips highlights a little too fast, and GoPro offers HLG HDR capture that DJI has no answer for. Photos follow suit: 50-megapixel stills against 48 in 4:3-only modes, and GoPro’s processing, in Jake’s words, just looks better.

Where does the Action 6 still win?

Audio comes first, and it is not close in the on-camera tests. If your action camera doubles as your vlogging camera, DJI’s microphones are the better starting point before any external mic enters the picture.

Internal memory comes second: the Action 6 carries 50 GB built in, and the number of forgotten-SD-card days that has rescued is, as Jake admits, more than he cares to count. The GoPro has none. The Action 6 also opens its variable aperture to f/2.0 against GoPro’s fixed f/2.8 for low light, though the observed difference was smaller than the spec suggests, and its optional macro lens focuses far closer than the GoPro can.

How do battery, charging, and tracking compare?

Runtime goes to GoPro: a little over 5 hours against about 4, helped by the physically larger Enduro 2 battery, which is interchangeable with the Hero 13 Black’s. Charging is now nearly even, about 18 minutes to 80% on the DJI and 20 on the GoPro, which erases a historic DJI advantage. GoPro’s traditional cold-weather battery fragility also failed to appear: both cameras shrugged off extended shooting in frigid Alaskan water.

Subject tracking splits on output resolution: the Action 6 caps tracked framing at 2.7K, while the GoPro delivers full 4K in both horizontal and vertical, a margin that matters more for archiving than for social feeds. And for tinkerers, GoPro Labs remains something nobody else offers: programmable behaviors from daily automated time-lapse frames to a 3 a.m. star-lapse wake-up.

What do they cost?

Prices as Jake documented them in June 2026: the Action 6 runs right around $430 to $450 for the camera with one battery. The Mission 1 Pro lists at $700, or $600 with GoPro’s subscriber discount, and the non-Pro Mission 1 (8K30 instead of 8K60) sits $100 below each of those numbers. That gap funds a lot of SD cards and spare batteries, and it is the quiet strongest argument on DJI’s side of the table.
