How Reuters uses drones to bring you real-world news in real-time
At this point, it seems that almost all news organizations use aerial photos and videos in their reporting. This story is about how Reuters, one of the world’s leading news agencies uses drones to bring you real-world news in real-time and to go where journalists simply can’t.
How Reuters uses drones to bring you real-world news in real-time
For instance, when in Beirut a warehouse full of ammonium nitrate exploded in August, Reuters used drones to show the full extent of the damage and devastation caused by the blast.
“As the leading global news agency for visual content, Reuters has been at the forefront of drone use in newsgathering, delivering customers compelling video and pictures to tell stories in unprecedented ways.”
Other examples in which Reuters turned to drones to capture the news are:
- During the early stages of Hurricane Laura making landfall in the U.S., Reuters used drone footage to provide unmatched coverage
- Reuters provided professional broadcast-quality drone footage of the nearly 13,000 migrants that were left without shelter after fires destroyed Greece’s largest camp on the island of Lesbos. Days laters drones were used again to show the emergency camp that had been set up by authorities.
- Reuters also used drones to provide aerial coverage of wildfires in the Amazon, A typhoon cleanup in Japan, a floating piano in a lake in France, a drive-in rave party in Germany, and the whale super highway in Australia.
Drones have become an important and integral part of news gathering and reporting and provide unique aerial perspectives that often would not be possible to achieve any other way.
