Recently Walmart launched a pilot program that uses drones to deliver COVID-19 test kits in Nevada. This week Walmart delivered the first COVID-19 test kit to a customer in New York.

Earlier this week Walmart delivered a COVID-19 test kit to a customer in the state of New York. Instead of driving to the store to pick up the COVID19 test, the kit is flown straight to your house and delivered on your front lawn.
To qualify for a Walmart drone delivery there are some requirements that you would have to meet. Interested people are asked to go online and answer a few questions to determine their eligibility. You also have to live within 1 mile of the Walmart location on Walden Avenue, in Cheektowaga, NY.
Once you qualify the process is straightforward. The delivery drone is launched from the Walmart location and drops the package off while hovering over the customer’s lawn, driveway or backyard. After self-administering the nose swab, the customer puts it back in the kit, seals it, and ships it directly to Quest Diagnostics with help from FedEx.
Kelly Payne, a Cheektowaga resident said that according to Walmart she was the first person in Western New York to have the COVID-19 test delivered by drone. And while she does not display any symptoms yet, Payne says it’s better to be safe than sorry, and get tested.
According to Walmart officials, the drone delivery program will shape how the company will provide contactless testing going forward amidst the spreading coronavirus pandemic.
