On Monday night in Albertville, Alabama, city officials presented a new drone to both the police and fire departments. The unmanned aircraft were donated by an anonymous individual.

According to assistant police chief JT Cartee, both departments were planning to buy one drone and share it. Instead, an anonymous donor surprised both departments with one DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual drone each.
The DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual it’s a foldable quadcopter that is lightweight and fast to launch. In addition, the drone has thermal imaging and can be equipped with exterior lighting, a strobe light, or a loudspeaker.
Cartee said the donated drone can be used to monitor large events or assist in emergency situations, search for missing persons, or map the scene of a car crash. He added that fire departments could use the aircraft to scan for fire hotspots or to assess fire damage.
“It’s a nice piece of equipment that really the city would have a hard time affording but it’s going to be a big service to our citizens,” explained Cartee.
This is the first time the Albertville Police Department has had access to a drone. Some of its officers already have some drone experience and have expressed interest in obtaining their part 107 certificate, reports News 19.
Hopefully, it will not take long before these departments can use the drones for good.
