DRONES DELIVER THOUSANDS OF JOBS AND $15B TO AUSTRALIAN GDP IN OVER NEXT 20 YEARS – Deloitte Access Economics forecasts that recreational and commercial drones could deliver thousands of jobs and as much as $15 billion to the Australian Gross Domestic Product in the next 20 years.
CHINA IS A MAJOR EXPORTER OF ARMED DRONES – Since 2011, China has become a major exporter of armed drones, says a new study from researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and Texas A&M University.
DRONE INTERFERES WITH HELICOPTERS FIGHTING CAMERON PEAK FIRE – On Saturday a drone interfered with helicopters that were involved in fighting the Cameron Peak fire in Colorado. As part of the fire fighting efforts, helicopters were dropping water in the Pingree Park area when they were forced to stop because of an illegally flown drone.
THE WALMART HOLIDAY DRONE LIGHT SHOW IS COMING TO YOU – To keep the spirits up, Walmart decided to launch a Drone Light Show this year. The all-new magical experience called the “Walmart Holiday Drone Light Show,” will come to select communities across the country. But, for those not fortunate to live close, the drone show will be live-streamed as well.
FAA PUBLISHES AIRWORTHINESS CRITERIA FOR CERTIFICATION OF 10 DIFFERENT DRONES – As Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) moves closer to integrating drones in the national airspace, the agency published airworthiness criteria for the proposed certification of 10 different Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or drones as special class aircraft.
CROP-SPRAYING DRONE DID NOT CAUSE CAR ACCIDENT CONCLUDES CUAASA – A crop-spraying drone did not cause a car accident that happened in South Africa last week, concludes the Commercial Unmanned Aircraft Association of Southern Africa (CUAASA), which had started an investigation into the crash.
THIS STUNNING DRONE VIDEO WAS VOTED BEST SHOWREEL OF 2020 – It is always nice to see what professional drone operators are pulling out of their hats when making aerial shots. Take the German company Skynamic, for example. Their 2020 stunning Drone Video recently won awards at the virtual sixth edition of the New York City Drone Film Festival (NYCDFF), in the “Showreel” category.
DJI MINI 2 COLD-WEATHER PERFORMANCE – DRONE OUTLASTS ONE PILOT – As you can see in these two videos, the DJI Mini 2 cold-weather performance is nothing to sneeze at. The just-launched mini drone is rated to operate in temperatures ranging from 32° to 104°F (or 0° to 40°C) but can handle even colder temperatures Check it out.
SHARKEYE USES DRONES AND AI TO KEEP BEACHGOERS SAFE FROM SHARKS – SharkEye is a new project in Southern California that uses drones and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to keep beachgoers safe from sharks. Similar to surf reports, SharkEye strives to release a shark report so that swimmers and surfers can assess the level of risk before entering the waters of Southern California.
