Australian drone-startup Swoop Aero has partnered with Skyports to create a UK-wide drone delivery service to transport urgent medical supplies and test kits to remote locations and help fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Swoop Aero and Skyports to offer UK-wide drone delivery service

According to a press release, Skyports picked Swoop Aero to enter into this partnership because of the aerial platform and the 3D-printed electric drones the Australian company provides. Aero Swoop’s fixed-wing drones will be used to deliver essential medical supplies for the National Health Service (NHS) to remote areas.

Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to deliver essential medical supplies and test kits is crucial. Drones have proven to be very effective and fast in reaching otherwise hard-to-get-to and remote locations. The partnership between Swoop Aero and Skyports will enable an on-demand service for the transport of high-value, perishable cargo such as vaccines, medicines, and pathology samples.

Skyports already specializes in operating end-to-end drone deliveries within the medical, e-commerce, and logistics sectors. It is currently working with the NHS in Scotland and the Royal Mail.

Skyports CEO Duncan Walker said, “There is a huge opportunity for drone delivery services in the UK – now more than ever. The demand for delivered goods is increasing and our service will support a wider network of hospitals and medical practices as they continue to respond the COVID-19 pandemic. We want more healthcare facilities to benefit from our service over the long term and the addition of the Swoop Aero platform enables us to expand our offering nationwide

Swoop Aero has active drone delivery services in five countries throughout Africa and the Pacific.
