Car manufacturer Porsche put a new commercial online this week that is a veritable FPV feast! Normally not something to pay much attention to, because such a Taycan Cross Turismo is not affordable for most of us. This time, however, none other than drone hero Johnny FPV was asked to produce this ad. Enough reason to get excited!

The Drive2Extremes campaign video shot at two extremes of climate: a track on a frozen lake in Finland and an exact replica of that track amid the blistering sand dunes of the Liwa Desert in the United Arab Emirates. In short: if you like cars and/or FPV, then the Drive2Extremes video is a feast for the eyes.

The video shows the fully electrically powered Taycan Cross Turismo being chased by a similarly electrically powered (duh) racing drone. So no smoking exhausts, but spectacular flying snow and sand clouds. Extra special are the seamless visual transitions between the two locations.

‘Epic project’

The shooting for the commercial took no less than six months. For Johhny FPV (who goes by the name Johhny Schaer in everyday life) it was one of his biggest film jobs to date:

“This project was epic to say the least. The desert track in Abu Dhabi was built from scratch, a perfect 1:1 replica of the one in Finland. Mirroring the two created a really interesting contrast of environments and allowed us to seamlessly merge the two locations in the montage. The goal was to create a video with 100% seamless transitions.”
