US dronemaker Skydio told its customers in an email to: ‘stop waiting and start doing.’ The company said that the Skydio 2 is now in stock and ready to ship. However, who cares when the new DJI Mavic 3 is expected to arrive this fall?

Skydio launched the Skydio 2 at the end of 2019. the drone was very well received as it was small, competent with complete autonomy, and competitively priced. The attractive offering resulted in the company receiving lots of pre-orders. So many, in fact, that it fell behind on delivering and shipping the drones to customers. The COVID-19 pandemic didn’t help matters much as it dramatically reduced Skydio’s manufacturing capacity. And after receiving a significant amount of funding, the company seemed to have shifted its focus away from the consumer market to the more lucrative defense and first responders markets. The Skydio X2 is one of the Blue sUAS drones, that are 8 to 14 times more expensive than comparable Chinese DJI drones, according to a memo from the Pentagon.

Many customers, including Casey Neistat, had to wait a very long time before receiving their drone, to the point where many simply canceled their pre-orders.

To make matters worse, Skydio increased the price of the Skydio 2 drone from $999 to $1,349 in May of this year, a 35% price hike.

In an email sent to customers yesterday, Skydio says that the Skydio 2 drone is now in stock and ready to ship.

“Stop waiting. Start doing. The Skydio 2 is now in stock and ready to ship. Get your creativity flowing and order today.”

However, the real question is, who will still want to buy a Skydio 2 drone with a 12MP sensor at a significantly higher price? Especially when a new DJI Mavic 3 with improved 360-degree obstacle avoidance, may be around the corner.
