“If that’s the last option that the dogs have? Then we’re going after them,” the CEO of drone operator Aerocamaras said.

Three starving canines were discovered trapped on the Spanish island of La Palma as a result of the erupting Cumbre Vieja volcano.

Emergency services have granted authorization to the drone operator, Aerocamaras, to rescue the dogs with its unmanned aircraft.

So far, the operator has been able to keep the dogs alive by regularly dropping off water and food as the Cumbre Vieja volcano kept erupting.

“It’s the first time an animal is being rescued with a drone and the first time it has to be captured,” Jaime Pereira, CEO of drone operator Aerocamaras, said, according to The Hill. “If that’s the last option that the dogs have? Then we’re going after them.”

To rescue the stranded animals the drone operator is planning to send in a 110-pound drone that will be equipped with a large net to capturer each dog and transport than over about half a mile to safety.

The drone pilot will have about four minutes to catch each dog in a large net and another four minutes to fly the animals to safety.

“What we don’t want is to run out of battery when flying over the lava,” Pereira said.

Currently, the drone operator is conducting test flights. It is unknown when the actual rescue of the stranded dogs will take place.
