Check out this short video in which the BBC explains how they use FPV drones to show the rainforest like weโve never seen before.
The amazing footage is captured with FPV drones that are equipped with GoPro cameras. Flying in between the branches and leaves can be very tricky and sometimes the drones crash.
โWe are using an awesome little drone here, called an FPV drone that can fly in between the trees through tiny little gaps. They can fly almost in limitless ways,โ says Louis Rummer-Downing Assistant Producer from the BBC. โYou can fly them and right up and sweep back down around trees. Thereโs nothing else that you can use to get these kinds of shots, so it makes them really special and gives us a whole new perspective on the rainforest.โ
Also shown in the video is the very special way in which they safely land the FPV drones high on an observatory tower in the middle of the rainforest.
Andrew Lawrence FPV drone pilot explains the complexity that is involved in capturing the drone footage.
โJust trying to plan some sort of route in and through the canopy which is quite difficult because thereโs only a few spots that really sort of stand out,โ he says.
FPV Drones used for The Green Planet
The FPV drone footage of the rainforest is captured as part of Sir David Attenboroughโs โThe Green Planetโ series from the BBC.
โThis drone provides a look that weโve never seen before in any wildlife films and that perspective is brand new. It gives us the ability to put the camera right in the world of the plants and fly through it in a really immersive way so weโre really happy,โ says Rummer-Downing.
