Check out these photos and video that were leaked by DealsDrone and Igor Bogdanov, showcasing what appears to be the DJI Air 3 drone. The yet-to-be-released DJI Air 3, presumed successor to the DJI Air 2S, seems to be inspired by the DJI Mavic 3 and Mini 3 Pro drones. Let’s examine these details more closely.

DJI Air 3 leaked photos

The first photo presents the DJI Air 3 from the side. Immediately noticeable is the streamlined body of the unmanned aircraft, featuring four fisheye obstacle avoidance sensors on each corner.

The overall design of the Air 3 drone appears to take cues from the DJI Mavic 3 and Mini 3 Pro, especially in terms of the arm folding mechanism, the arm design, the ‘backdoor’ battery design, and the fisheye obstacle avoidance sensors.

What’s also striking is the relatively large gimbal and camera mounted at the front of the drone. Most people seem to anticipate that the Air 3 will sport a 1-inch sensor camera. However, could the DJI Air 3 possess the same camera and micro four-thirds sensor as found in the DJI Mavic 3 Classic?

Perhaps. It’s difficult to ascertain based on these leaked photos without a size reference, but to my eye, the camera appears larger than the one on the Air 2S.

A DJI Air 3 with aerial photo and video capabilities akin to those found in its larger counterpart, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic, would make for a truly compelling new drone. It wouldn’t be the first time DJI has cannibalized its own product line.

Based on these photos and video, it seems safe to assume that the DJI Air 3 will feature omni-directional obstacle avoidance, which would be an improvement from its predecessor, the DJI Air 2S.

The DJI Air 2S was released on April 15th, 2021 and succeeded the DJI Air 2. The DJI Air 2S comes with a 1-inch sensor, shoots 20MP stills, and can record up to 5.4K video at 30 fps and at 150 Mpbs. The drone also allows you to shoot in D-Log at 10-bits for improved color depth. It also shoots 4K video at 60 fps. Unfortunately, the drone has a fixed aperture of f/2.8.

Battery design and flight time

One of the leaked photos displays the batteries of the DJI Air 3. They appear relatively large in comparison to the drone itself, which seems small and lightweight. This could hint at an extended flight time for the DJI Air 3.

51 Drones released a video yesterday discussing six improvements he’d like to see in the DJI Air 3. It appears that perhaps as many as four of his wishes might come to fruition when the DJI Air 3 is released.

  1. There is no way that the air 3 will have a micro 4/3 camera system, it makes zero sense as that simply cannibalises Mavic 3 classic sales, it’s more likely to be an improved 1” sensor with a secondary 3x or 7x telephoto, personally a 3x is an excellent and preferred choice, the 7x is not as useful for most scenarios in my opinion

    • Steve Jobs used to say I’d rather Cannibalize myself then have someone else do it.

  2. I hope that the brand new AIR 3 will be equipped with obstacle avoidance as effective as the AIR 2S and above all that it will be classified in the C1 category. This was the big flaw of the AIR 2S. I can not wait to see him

    • What I expect above all from the AIR 3 is an autonomy that differs from the “Mini” range, a multi-directional obstacle detection system. The rest of the performance of the AIR 2S suits me perfectly for “confirmed amateur” use. Alright, enough talk: when is the release? 😉

  3. 1″ sensor & the 3x camera would be perfect! Also how about a bump to 60fps for both. Might be too much, but how about 5k for both. I have the Mavic 3 Pro now & need a good back up drone for it. BTW, I just sold my Avata, Air 2S & Mavic 3 to make room for the Air 3.
