Colorado Springs Fire Department Bolsters Rescue Efforts with DJI Drones
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) has taken a giant leap in enhancing rescue operations with Chinese-made DJI drones. On Saturday, Aug. 19, CSFD launched its inaugural Special Operations Unit, providing 24/7 drone assistance and more.
This brand-new team didn't wait long to spring into action. The very same day, they aided in locating two hikers who'd lost their way. CSFD even shared a clip on social media, capturing drones aiding Firefighters zooming on motorcycles.
CSFD enthusiastically stated, “History was made this week at the CSFD as the first-ever Special Operations Unit went into service. The unit allows for around-the-clock drone support, public information support, incident safety, and health and wellness. They will be dispatched to emergencies including but not limited to lost/missing hikers, smoke investigations, structure/wildland fires, high-angle rescues, and swift water rescues.”
“Our team operates out of Station 8 and is staffed by a CSFD captain and two lieutenants. Our drone fleet currently includes two drones, both equipped with infrared technology and several other capabilities. This technology will give our crews the ability to enhance operations and decision-making to continue to keep our community as safe as possible.”
“Having both of these resources working together demonstrates our all-hands-on-deck mentality when it comes to keeping our community safe.”
This fusion of tech and teamwork is a promising sign for the safety of Colorado Springs residents.
