The future has wings, and it’s buzzing overhead! As technology zooms ahead, drones are taking the spotlight, and Northern New Mexico is about to get a slice of the action. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is heading to Northern New Mexico College for a three-day drone bonanza, as reported by KRQE News.

Commencing on September 21, 2023, at the school’s Center for the Arts in Española, N.M., this event isn’t just for tech enthusiasts. It’s open to all, from the curious mind to the industry professional. The best part? It’s free!

Northern New Mexico College’s President, Hector Balderas, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This exciting event is a wonderful way to showcase both the educational value and the fun in drone technology.”

He emphasized the college’s dedication to nurturing talents in this domain, adding, “Northern has a history of supporting student success in the drone technology space, and we are excited to continue building interest in this and all STEM fields.”

Three Days, Three Themes

The event promises a fusion of education, fun, and hands-on experiences spread across three unique days:

  1. Education Day: Learn about the endless opportunities the drone industry offers.
  2. Public Service Day: The spotlight turns to pilot and public safety, ensuring the skies are safe for all.
  3. Dronee Fun Day: Ever heard of a “drodeo” or drone rodeo? It’s where drones meet New Mexico’s iconic rodeo culture.

Describing the essence of this day, NNMC Associate Professor David Lindblom said, “New Mexico is a big rodeo place. This is fusing drones and our rodeo culture. It’s a way for the community to enjoy our campus and be introduced to drone technology.”

Throughout the event, attendees will witness captivating drone shows. They’ll also get a chance to dive deep into discussions with professionals and enjoy hands-on drone activities.

The Federal Aviation Administration has nine regional offices within the U.S. Each region is expanding outreach with in-person events. The goal is to highlight the societal, economic, and educational benefits of drones for the general public, through a series of events focusing on different audiences. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Please note that there may be additional costs for lunch.
