Quick Action and Drone Technology Lead to Safe Recovery
A 12-year-old girl who threatened to run away from the Stowe Elementary School area in Duluth, Minnesota, was quickly located by police using a drone on Wednesday. The Duluth Police Department (DPD) received a report of the missing child near the 500 block of W Stowe Street in the Gary New Duluth neighborhood.
School officials informed officers that the missing youth was not a student at Stowe Elementary. Upon arrival, a member of the DPD’s Drone Unit deployed a drone and successfully located the girl in a nearby wooded area, reports WDIO. The drone operator relayed the information to ground officers, who found the child and transported her to a local hospital for evaluation.
The DPD emphasized the public safety benefits of utilizing new technology in such situations.
“Deployment of this drone greatly increased the speed and efficiency of locating this child safely,” the department stated in a release.
This incident highlights the effectiveness of drones in search and rescue operations, particularly when time is of the essence. The swift action taken by the Duluth Police Department, combined with the use of cutting-edge technology, ensured the safe recovery of the missing 12-year-old girl.
As drone technology continues to advance, it is expected to play an increasingly vital role in various aspects of law enforcement and emergency response, ultimately contributing to the well-being and safety of communities across the nation.
