A family’s terrifying ordeal in Queens came to a swift end thanks to the NYPD’s use of drone technology. As reported by NBC New York, three armed men who invaded a Douglaston home were apprehended after fleeing the scene, with a police drone playing a crucial role in their capture.

The Home Invasion

In the early hours of Saturday morning, around 2:30 a.m., three men forcibly entered a family residence in Douglaston, Queens. The home was occupied by eight family members, including five children and three adults. The invaders, armed with two hammers and a gun, appeared to be targeting cash in what investigators believe was a planned attack.

Police Response and Drone Deployment

Responding to a 911 call made by one of the women inside the house, NYPD officers quickly surrounded the property. Upon arrival, they observed family members on the floor with their hands up through a window. As the situation escalated, the three suspects managed to escape through a kitchen window with stolen cash.

In a decisive move, the NYPD deployed a drone to track the fleeing suspects.

A department source stated, “The drone was instrumental in pinpointing the location of all three suspects, leading to their swift apprehension.”

Aftermath and Arrests

Two adults in the home sustained injuries during the invasion, with one person punched in the face and another struck in the foot with a hammer. A woman and a baby managed to escape through a window during the ordeal.

The three suspects, including Ryan Dash and Brendan Dash, both 30, were quickly taken into custody following the drone-assisted chase. They now face charges including robbery, assault, and burglary.

DroneXL’s Take

This incident highlights the growing importance of drone technology in law enforcement operations. As we’ve seen in recent police drone deployments, unmanned aerial vehicles are becoming invaluable tools for rapid response and suspect tracking. The NYPD’s successful use of a drone in this high-stakes situation demonstrates the potential for drones to enhance public safety and aid in swift crime resolution.
