The new sensor array at the top / front of the DJI Air 3S could include ToF (time of flight) sensors or possible even LiDAR sensors to help the drone track subject and avoid obstacles better.

Design and Portability of DJI Air 3S

The leaked images reveal a compact, foldable design typical of DJI’s Air series. The drone sports a sleek gray body with black propellers, maintaining the familiar aesthetics of its predecessors. The “AIR 3S” label is prominently displayed on the drone’s arm, confirming the model name.

Enhanced Dual Camera System

One of the most notable features is the drone’s dual camera, mounted on a gimbal at the front. The images suggest a larger lens and sensors, potentially indicating significant upgrades in imaging capabilities.

The DJI Air 3S seems to suffer from the same oversized camera syndrome of the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, making the drone appear front-heavy with a camera setup up that seems somewhat out of proportion.

OsitaLV shared some details visible on a laptop screen in one of the photos, revealing:

  • A Sony CMOS sensor, possibly the IMX320
  • 14EV dynamic range, optimized for sunset scenarios
  • Improved noise reduction for image capture
  • On-board panorama composition capability of 13000×6500 pixels

Potential Features and Improvements

Based on the information gleaned from the leaked images, the DJI Air 3S appears to offer several enhancements over its predecessors:

  • High Dynamic Range (HDR) modes for improved contrast handling
  • Advanced ISO sensitivity settings for better low-light performance
  • 4K video capabilities
  • Enhanced color reproduction and noise reduction

Igor Bogdanov quipped in his leak, “Sorry DJI Neo, but you will be forgotten today,” suggesting that the DJi Air 3S might outshine other recent or upcoming DJI releases.

DroneXL’s Take

The leaked images of the DJI Air 3S hint at a significant step forward for DJI’s prosumer drone lineup. With its enhanced camera capabilities and compact design, the Air 3S could bridge the gap between hobbyist and professional-grade drones. This aligns with the trend we’ve seen in recent DJI rumors, where each new release pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in consumer drone technology.

The emphasis on improved low-light performance and dynamic range suggests that DJI is targeting photographers and videographers who demand high-quality output in challenging conditions. As we’ve seen with previous DJI releases, these advancements often trickle down to influence the broader drone industry, potentially raising the bar for image quality across the board.

We’re eager to see how the DJI Air 3S performs in real-world tests and how it compares to its predecessors and competitors. What are your thoughts on these leaked images? Do you think the DJI Air 3S will live up to the hype? Share your opinions in the comments section below.
