Green Day Interrupted Mid-Song by Drone Threat at Detroit Concert

Green Day was mid-song Wednesday night at Comerica Park in Detroit when the band suddenly ran off stage because of a drone threat. The incident, which caused a brief pause in the concert, highlights the growing concern over drones in public spaces.

Drone Disrupts Green Day Concert

The band was performing “Longview” when someone ran on stage, prompting the band members to follow quickly behind. Videos circulating on social media show singer Billy Joe Armstrong and other band members rushing off stage. The interruption lasted about 10 minutes, during which the large screens displayed a “Show Pause” message.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit Police Department (DPD) confirmed that the interruption was due to a drone flying into Comerica Park.

“There was an individual that flew a drone into Comerica Park, and because of that, Green Day was taken off the stage,” said DPD spokesman Cpl. Dan Donakowski. “DPD did locate the individual. He is being detained pending further investigation.”

The drone could be seen overhead moments before the band fled.

Band Responds to Incident

Green Day acknowledged the incident on their social media, stating, “Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight, Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.”

The police in Detroit did not say how they were able to locate the rogue drone pilot, but Brendan Schulman wondered if this might be the first Remote ID success story. He might well be right.

Despite the drone incident, the band resumed their performance after the drone was removed. According to Bridge Michigan’s Joel Kurth, Armstrong declared, “no motherf*ckers are gonna keep us down!” and continued the show.
