Teledyne FLIR and Gremsy Partner to Launch Advanced AI-Enabled Thermal Drone Payload

Teledyne FLIR and Gremsy have unveiled their latest collaboration – an advanced AI-driven payload that combines high-precision imaging with capabilities. The new Vio F1 payload, developed under Teledyne FLIR’s “Thermal by FLIR” program, represents a significant advancement in drone-based thermal imaging technology.

Advanced Imaging Capabilities

At the heart of the Vio F1 is Teledyne FLIR’s Boson radiometric thermal camera module, featuring a 640 x 512 resolution sensor with 8x zoom capabilities. This is complemented by a 4K Block Zoom EO sensor that delivers up to 240x zoom, enabling operators to capture highly detailed imagery from safe distances. The system also incorporates a 2,400-meter laser range finder, providing precise measurement capabilities essential for industrial applications.

“Working with the global leader in thermal imaging through the Thermal by FLIR program empowered Gremsy to drive innovation and get Vio swiftly to market,” explains Vinh Tran, CEO of Gremsy. The payload’s versatility is enhanced by its compatibility with multiple platforms, including Blue sUAS providers, Pixhawk, CubePilot, and Skynode systems.

AI-Enhanced Operations

The Vio F1’s artificial intelligence capabilities set it apart in the market. The system can automatically detect and track various objects, including humans, vehicles, and boats, while its AI Auto Zoom feature automatically adjusts magnification based on target distance. This automation significantly reduces operator workload during critical missions such as operations or infrastructure inspections.

Security and Compliance

Assembled in the , the Vio F1 meets critical security requirements for sensitive applications. The payload is both National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) compliant and ITAR-free, making it suitable for deployment across a wide range of sectors, from public safety to industrial inspection.

Future Developments

Dan Walker, vice president of product development at Teledyne FLIR, highlighted upcoming enhancements to the system: “The upcoming implementation of our radiometric JPG file format will soon enable pilots to leverage the FLIR Thermal Studio Suite analysis and reporting software.” This addition will expand the payload’s utility for detailed thermal analysis and documentation.

The Vio F1 represents a significant step forward in thermal drone payload technology, offering a combination of advanced imaging, AI capabilities, and broad compatibility that makes it suitable for applications ranging from infrastructure inspection to disaster relief operations. As the continues to evolve, such innovations in payload technology will play an increasingly crucial role in expanding the capabilities of unmanned aerial systems.
