ANRA Technologies will deliver Finland’s U-space services through a newly announced contract with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, marking a strategic expansion of drone traffic management capabilities in Northern Europe. The selection was confirmed by both organizations on February 10, 2025.

Under the agreement, ANRA will deploy its new Noon UTM platform to provide mandatory U-space services across Finland. The system will deliver four core capabilities required for U-space operations: flight authorization, geo-awareness, network identification, and traffic information services. These services form the foundation for integrating unmanned aircraft into Finnish airspace.

“This is one of the vital steps in our mission of paving the way for the industry on its road towards secure, safe and scalable drone operation business,” said Dr. Petri Mononen, Research Team Leader for VTT Innovative Air Mobility. The research focus of VTT suggests this implementation will support both immediate drone integration needs and future advanced operations.

The selection comes at a pivotal moment for European drone infrastructure development. ANRA is currently pursuing certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to become the first U-space Service Provider (USSP). This dual development – winning the VTT contract while pursuing EASA certification – positions ANRA to contribute significantly to European U-space implementation standards.

“ANRA Noon is designed to accommodate the unique requirements of diverse drone operations,” noted Amit Ganjoo, Founder and CEO of ANRA Technologies. The platform’s selection by VTT indicates growing confidence in specialized UTM solutions for national-scale drone management.

The implementation faces several technical challenges. The Noon platform must integrate with existing air traffic management systems while establishing new capabilities for drone operators. This includes providing real-time airspace intelligence, flight planning tools, and regulatory compliance monitoring across Finland’s diverse geography and weather conditions.

From a research perspective, VTT’s selection of ANRA aligns with broader European U-space objectives. The technical research center’s involvement suggests this implementation will inform future standards and best practices for U-space services across Europe.

The project’s success could influence U-space architecture decisions across other European nations, particularly those with similar airspace complexity and environmental challenges. As drone operations continue to expand across Europe, the lessons learned from this implementation will provide valuable insights for future U-space deployments.
