DJI Mavic 4 Pro: A Hard Shell Case Review for DJI’s Camera Drone

I’ve featured many of their cases on my channel over the years. They offer high-quality cases that are budget-friendly. While some hard cases can be pricey, Lykus provides an affordable yet durable option.

Comparing Case Types

In reality, when it comes to drone cases, backpacks or shoulder bags are often more convenient. They’re easier to carry, especially for hiking to a location. Hard cases, however, can be bulky and less practical for such scenarios. That said, hard cases serve specific purposes and are essential in certain situations.

Key Features and Benefits

Waterproof Protection

These cases are waterproof, making them ideal for filming near water. Whether you’re dealing with rain, mud, or an accidental dip in water, your gear stays protected. Personally, I use a waterproof case when taking my drone out in a canoe or kayak, ensuring my equipment is safe if something goes wrong.

Durable for Travel

Hard cases are also excellent for travel, especially road trips. When loading your car with gear, you don’t have to worry about heavy items damaging your drone. These cases are designed to withstand rough handling, keeping your equipment secure in various travel scenarios.

Case Features Overview

The Lykus hard-shell case shares features common among high-quality hard cases. It’s waterproof, ensuring your equipment stays dry. It includes a double-lock mechanism, requiring a button press to release the latch, preventing accidental openings. There’s a pressure regulator and a spot to add a lock for extra security. The case also has heavy-duty hinges for durability.

Interior Design

Inside, the case features precision-cut foam tailored for the Mavic 4 Pro. It accommodates everything in the FlyMore kit, plus extra batteries. The foam includes compartments for both the RC Pro 2 and DJI RC2 controllers. Here’s how it fits:

• Drone: The Mavic 4 Pro slides securely into its designated slot.
• Controllers: The case supports both RC2 and RC2 Pro controllers. A removable foam piece adjusts the fit. For the RC2, keep the foam in place; for the RC2 Pro, remove it. The foam has double-sided tape for permanent placement if you primarily use the RC2. I use the RC Pro 2, so I keep the foam out.
• Batteries: The case holds up to six batteries, including the charging hub, which fits three batteries. Two additional slots and the drone’s battery slot make six total.
• Propellers: A slot holds spare props, fitting at least four, possibly up to eight or ten.
• Charger and Accessories: The case accommodates both the 240-watt and 100-watt chargers, with space for the power cable and a heavy-duty USB-C cable. A small slot holds accessories like ND filters. While Freewell filters don’t fit in this slot, they can fit in the prop slot if you carry fewer props.

Final Thoughts

The Lykus hard-shell case for the DJI Mavic 4 Pro isn’t for everyone. Many prefer the convenience of a backpack or shoulder bag, especially since the FlyMore kit includes a high-quality shoulder bag.
