Ukrainian Drone Autonomy Firm NORDA Dynamics Raises $1M for GPS-Free Flight Systems

Ukrainian autonomous drone control developer NORDA Dynamics has secured $1 million in funding to scale production of UAV systems designed to operate without GPS or traditional communications. Swedish investment firm Varangians led the round, which signals growing investor confidence in Ukraine’s defense technology sector. This funding round matters for the drone industry because it validates a critical capability gap in modern UAV operations. As electronic warfare becomes more sophisticated, drones that can navigate and complete missions in GPS-denied environments represent a significant technological advancement with applications beyond military use.

International Investors Back Ukrainian Innovation

The $1 million investment round attracted a diverse group of backers beyond lead investor Varangians. Ukrainian fund Angel One joined alongside US-Ukrainian firm MITS Capital, the United Angels Network angel syndicate, and US-based Unpopular VC. This international mix demonstrates growing recognition of Ukraine’s emerging defense technology ecosystem.

“We were among the first in the world to scale autonomy modules to tens of thousands of combat applications in modern warfare, and we are now ready for the next stage,” said Nazar Bihun, co-founder and CEO of NORDA Dynamics, according to The Defender.

GPS-Free Drone Technology Addresses Critical Need

Founded in 2024, NORDA Dynamics specializes in autonomous UAV control systems that function without GPS, traditional communication channels, or in environments with heavy electronic warfare interference. The company’s flagship product, the Underdog universal autonomy module, has become what Bihun calls “the most widely used system for guiding UAVs to their targets in the combat zone.

The company’s StableLink system provides another crucial capability by stabilizing drone position through azimuth and altitude control. This technology ensures precise UAV control even under active jamming and complete GPS denial, making it valuable for autonomous relay and minelaying drone missions.

Combat-Proven Systems Ready for Scale

NORDA Dynamics claims its solutions enable mission execution without operator involvement, even in complex combat or isolated environments. The company’s ecosystem products are already integrated with dozens of Ukrainian drone manufacturers and have undergone testing in real combat conditions—a validation process few drone technology companies can claim.

Pär Lager, CEO of Varangians, noted that NORDA’s team stood out among the “many strong defence tech companies” his firm encountered in Ukraine. “The company is solving one of the battlefield’s key challenges and has the team and expertise to continue developing innovative solutions,” he said.

The new funding will support expanded production, team growth, and development of new products aimed at enhancing UAV autonomy capabilities.

DroneXL’s Take

NORDA Dynamics represents a fascinating case study in how conflict drives technological innovation. While the company’s current focus is military applications, GPS-denied autonomy has significant potential in civilian sectors like search and rescue, disaster response, and commercial operations in challenging environments. The diverse international investor base suggests this Ukrainian startup has successfully communicated the broader market potential beyond defense applications. As electronic warfare capabilities proliferate globally, demand for robust, GPS-independent drone systems will likely extend far beyond current conflict zones.
