DJI Avata 360 Leaks Hint at a Very Near Launch
Amazon Drone Deals: DJI Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo with DJI RC2 now for $1,099!
Fresh leaked images of what appears to be the DJI Avata 360 are making the rounds, and if these photos are telling the truth, DJI is no longer just flirting with 360 degree video. It is fully committed.
The images were shared by well known DJI leaker Igor Bogdanov(@Quadro_News), and he showed a drone that looks far too finished to be a rough prototype. This is not a blurry factory floor shot taken with a potato. This looks like a nearly retail ready product, accessories and all.
As always, let’s be clear. Everything you are about to read is based on leaks, rumors, and educated guessing. DJI has officially said absolutely nothing. That said, DJI usually leaks like a cracked LiPo, and this one is dripping.
A Fly More Combo With RC 2, Because Of Course It Is
One of the most telling details in the leaked photos is what looks like a full Fly More Combo. The images show a battery charging hub loaded with three batteries, along with the DJI RC 2 Smart Controller.
That alone suggests DJI is planning to position the Avata 360 as a polished, consumer ready product, not some experimental niche drone. DJI loves bundling, and the Fly More Combo has basically become their comfort blanket.
The presence of the RC 2 also hints at a familiar, accessible experience for pilots who are not hardcore FPV purists. At the same time, leaks suggest the Avata 360 will still support full manual control using the FPV Remote Controller 3 and Goggles 3, keeping experienced pilots happy.
In classic DJI fashion, everyone gets what they want, as long as they buy DJI accessories.
Dual 180 Degree Lenses And A Rotating Camera Module
The star of the show is obviously the camera module. The leaked photos show two cameras, each equipped with a 180 degree fisheye lens. Combined, they deliver full 360 degree video capture, placing DJI squarely in competition with Insta360’s Antigravity A1.
But DJI may have a trick up its sleeve.
Several leaked images show what appears to be a rotating camera unit. The theory is that the camera can rotate 90 degrees, allowing one of the lenses to face forward. This would enable a single lens mode, letting pilots shoot standard, non 360 video and photos.
One leaked image even shows the DJI RC displaying a normal forward facing live view, which strongly suggests this single lens mode is real.
If true, this is a meaningful advantage over the Antigravity A1, whose lenses are fixed and always shooting in full 360. With the Avata 360, you could fly like a normal FPV drone when you want, then switch to full spherical chaos when you don’t.
In other words, less “fix it in post” and more “just fly the thing.”
Two Use Cases, One Drone
The rotating camera design suggests DJI is trying to merge two worlds.
On one hand, you have a 360 degree camera drone that lets you reframe everything later, ideal for social media, action shots, and creative content. On the other hand, you still have a forward facing FPV drone that behaves like a traditional Avata, with a normal pilot view during flight.
This dual personality could make the Avata 360 far more practical than a dedicated 360 only drone. It is the difference between a drone you use occasionally and one you actually keep in your bag.
Think of it as an Avata that went to film school and came back wearing a very round hat.
Rumored Specs, Big Numbers, Zero Confirmation
As of now, DJI has not confirmed a single specification, but that has never stopped the rumor mill.
Leaks suggest the Avata 360 could feature dual 1 over 1.1 inch CMOS sensors, possibly the same ones used in the DJI Osmo 360 action camera. If that is true, 8K video recording is likely on the table. We have to remember that we you are watching 8K video on a 360 deegres enviroment (I use the Meta Quest 3S) is not that much of a sharp-sharp resolution. All you have been warned.
Other rumored features include improved battery life compared to the Avata 2, obstacle avoidance, and even some form of follow mode. Whether all of that makes it into the final product is anyone’s guess.
Weight, flight time, frame rates, and bitrates remain complete mysteries.
But we hope that the avata 360 is going to be an under-250 grams drone
Basically, the spec sheet is currently made of hopes, dreams, tweets and forum posts.
Launch Timing And The Awkward US Situation
One interesting detail is that the Avata 360 was reportedly registered with the FCC before the US ban on new DJI drones came into effect. That could mean DJI originally intended to launch it in the United States.
However, with the current regulatory situation, availability in the US is now very much in doubt. For everyone else, especially Europe and Asia, the leaks suggest a launch is not far off.
When a drone starts appearing with final packaging, accessories, and live controller footage, it usually means DJI is already warming up the press release.
DroneXL’s Take
DJI entering the FPV 360 space feels inevitable in hindsight, but the Avata 360 looks like more than just a reaction to Insta360. If the rotating camera and single lens mode are real, DJI may have built a drone that actually makes 360 video less annoying to use.
That alone would be an achievement.
As always with DJI leaks, assume nothing, trust no one, and expect at least one feature to disappear before launch. Still, if even half of these rumors turn out to be true, the Avata 360 could end up being one of the most interesting FPV drones DJI has released in years.
Now we wait. And refresh Twitter (no, I’m not calling it by its other name). And pretend we are not already mentally spending the money.
